The long and arduous 10 meter walk to the Laundromat has always exemplified my definition of pain. Holding the basket to my waist (please pasteurize this for me) has a few distinct disadvantages:
1. It makes me look very very gay.
2. Placing the basket to my waist leads to horizontal expansion
which was never designed for passing narrow doors.
3. Greasy fingers dont help in preventing it from slipping.
4. If, like me, you wait for weeks before you finally give in then you understand what I mean by 'overflowing' basket!
5. With the basket loosely secured to your waist the fumes of dirt and grime find a clear passage to the nasal passage.
To do away all these annoyances I propose a new design for laundry baskets
Ala.... the back strap - backpack version. Place all your stinking clothes and squat and loop the straps on either shoulder, get up and on you are on your way.
Backpack Laundry Hamper

Are you wearing a dress while doing laundry? |
[Letsbuildafort] aw come on. its christmas eve and i'm half drunk! this is a good idea!! laughs. |
If you're expecting a break because of the holidays, then ok ... I'm going to stay neutral. But some of the material you put in your ideas is just WAY too easy to shoot-down. Just couldn't pass up. Happy holidays, [n_w]. Glad to see you here. I might not have any new material for the new year otherwise. :P |

OH, and Dec 24th was Christmas eve. |
[Letsbuildafort] and so you now know that i am not american! |
where in the world is the 26th - christmas eve? or am *I* still under the influence? |

I've seen people carrying large handled laundry baskets by hooking their arms through the handles and hoisting them up on their backs. Which means that you don't need that new design - it's been done already. |
(Btw, see link for a backpack laundry hamper.) |
[DrCurry] I dont know. do you think that using a straw wowen bag will be a good idea while transferring wet clothes from the washer to the dryer? |
As I noted, that's a hamper, not a laundry basket. And you did specify the problem as the 10-minute walk to the Laundromat, not the transfer of wet clothes from washer to dryer. Once there, you can use the run of the mill plastic things the place provides. |
[DrCurry] if conveneince is not an issue then one can even cansider taking one iten at a time to the laundry machine. |
Obviously I live in a ruggedly heterosexual part of the world, but here we (a) take our washing to the Laundromat(TM) in plastic bags and (b) don't have laundry baskets, we have floors instead. If you have a laundry basket at all, you'll be wearing multicolored jumpers and listening to Steven Sondheim before the New Year, so don't sweat it, just learn the lyrics to Send In The Clowns. |

So you regard this as a negative thing? I must have misunderstood that bit on your profile page where you said the good part of your day was when you got pounded in the ass. |
The Ghost of MFDs Past suggests that this should be redesigned as "Hover Hamper" |
You don't know who MFD is?! Omigod- he practically reinvented this site! |
but what does MFD stand for? |
I think that makes sure. though i am not top sure. happy new year anyway. |
I haven't seen MFD for days ! erm, I like the idea, it would be great too if the bag was washable so you could just chuck it in. |
//but what does MFD stand for?// |

Edit: It means you think the moderators of 1/2B should look at this idea and think about deleting it because it doesn't match the criteria for being half baked. |
You could just put them on in layers
and wear all of those clothes down to the
laundry. |
