My Idea:

BIZ TO CONSUMER market reseacrh firm. Business are always trying to find out what the masses are thinking, and if their new product, business, ad, etc. would be successful. My idea is to start a community of consumers in many age groups to help business with their market research assignments . This is how it will work:

1)Consumers will become members (Free), they will recieve points for every market research assignment they participate in. The points can be used to purchase items, similiar to coolsavings.com or blackplanet.com. Probably partnerships will work best for this!!!

2) Business will become clients of this company, they will pay a fee and ask us what they want the community to help them with like, how many people will use their product, pay, etc.

I believe this firm can benefit both sides because consumers will be willing to answer questions because they are getting someting for their time, and biz are getting the necessary info for their company to surive.

what you think?, will you use a company like this? all replies are appreciated good or bad :-)

Baked: focus group members are paid for their time. Nielsen raters are paid for rating.

If you limit your marketing campaign to those people who think that they are getting a better deal by earning points instead of cold hard cash, you're probably skewing your demographic towards the gulible end of the market... Not such a good idea.

Interestingly enough, Im not sure that paying people is such a good idea from past experience. Being a student I have gone through spells of unemployment and in one such I joined an agency which hooks up marketing companies with consumers. One of my closest friends does this as his sole source of income. As a result of this you end up with the same people reporting relatively distorted view of the market for a particular product rather like a US election. To compound this, the agencies with the best and most willing consumers were given more assignments and thus more commission. Before we went into some of the focus group meetings we were told what to tell the marketing people.

I have studied marketing briefly (well, enough to know its all a bunch of crap,) and at the first lecture, the lecturer told us that marketing was superior and should be chosen as a sub-major because it was cutting-edge and all theories unlike Economics and Accounting which has axioms and 'truths'. I guess what he was really saying was that marketers don't really know anything... and he was totally correct.

I'd imagine that the gullible are every advertiser's *dream* demographic.

So you get the B2B newsletter? Is this going to be another daily chunk of spam I can't unsubscribe from?
