Champion bodybuilders can look ridiculous to outsiders, so why not play up the idea a little more.
The idea here is to work out just one muscle of your body; and to make that muscle as out of proportion as possible to the rest of your body. For example, just one ab, or just one arm's biceps.
The
winner of this contest will be the person who is as thin, flabby, and wimpy as possible in every part of their body except for the target muscle, which is as toned, pumped, huge, and sculpted as humanly possible.
Special exercises will need to be developed which zone in on one local muscle, with minimal development to the surrounding muscles.
And interestingly, the ideal candidate for this sport will not necessarily be a large-framed person; a thin floppy person may have more potential for contrast. Only the degree of contrast is judged; not the size of the muscle.
This sport reduces necessary gym time, too, and lets competitors have a life outside the weight room, because it takes less time to work just one muscle than the whole body.

Should I make the first penis joke? Naw, I will stay above it. |

Some mountain climbers work build up their upper body while letting their legs atrophy. The legs are just dead weight to them. |
|
|
Professional badminton players may have one arm vastly contrasting in size with the other. |
|
|
Maybe you could find a way of keeping the player in a totally supine position while still having free use of their good arm. |

|
[Idischler]'s right on track. A fiddler crab would be a great emblem for the IABC (International Asymmetrical Bodybuilders' Conference) |
|
|
( I think mountain climbers use their legs a
lot - so not sure about what you have said,
but their necks are like twigs from all
that craning up.) |

They meant rock climbers. |

Eeeeel, I saw that show. At one point he had a huge hematoma (big red vein) sticking out and he didn't want to go to the hospital because they would discover he'd been using steroids. So he tried to.. |

... y'know what? if you want to know, go watch this on TV because I don't want to scare the rest of you. |
|
|
What about building all muscles down one side of the body only? Thus, the most comma-shaped contestant wins. |

In my teens, I worked in a travelling carnival, running a swing-the-hammer-ring-the-bell game. I was too puny to ring the bell, but I worked out a way to do it one handed, dramatically building up a lot of momentum. By the end of summer, my right arm was bulked, but the rest of me was still puny. |

IIRC, bodybuilders used to not exercise their buttock muscles because they didn't want huge asses. I haven't looked to see if that's changed. |
|
|
Yeah, bodybuilders are freaks. Let's go with it. [+] |

Ummm, this is strongly reminding me of the film "The Lady in the Water..." and the letters WICTTISITMWIBNIIWR come to mind... Followed by... Oh, why bother. |

I promise, I've never seen that film. |

well, blow me down! - I read the entire article on Greg Valentino.
I think it's sad that he didn't take that sort of drive and apply it somewhere that would have payed off. |

Rowers also tend to develop asymetrically depending on whether they row bowside or strokeside. |

Hilarious idea! Will develop into an entire fetishist industry. More markets! More joy! |

Fencing's another sport where this happens. |

Two articles I read in the past spring to mind, neither of
which I can (read: have the desire to) cite
at the moment: |
|
|
One, written by an Olympic athlete, about living inside the
Olympic Village during the games, specifically about being
able to guess other athlete's events by looking at their
body types; bicyclists with huge legs and scrawny arms,
kayakers with massive upper bodies and stick-figure legs,
etc. |
|
|
Another, possibly apocryphal, about a journalist who was
assigned to do a spread on pro arm wrestling and chose to
cover the event HST-style; he worked out his right arm
almost exclusively for a month, only to show up at his first
event and learn that the pros are required to wrestle with
both arms. |
|
|
arm wrestlers, and some type of olympic weight
lifters tend to have very disproportional muscles. |
