Why do envelopes have to be symmetrical (folded letter ones, not your big manila contrivances)?
Why not make them so that the lowest point of the flap closes down to a point on the left- or right-hand side of the rear of the letter?

This is how I wrap birthday presents. It's a good way to wrap if you want to disguise less-than-perfectly-straight cuts, or if you don't have quite enough paper to wrap it the normal way. |
