Asteroid Math Olympics
Using a database of known asteroid positions plus velocities from the asteroid belt the competing groups are given 5000 ion engines then told to calculate the orbital mechanics to agglomerate the asteroids to destroy earth | |
Using a database of known asteroid positions plus velocities from the asteroid belt the competing groups are given 5000 ion engines then told to calculate the orbital mechanics to agglomerate the asteroids to destroy earth
just like the Viking Mission zipped around numerous planets to create both
purposed direction plus velocity (link) the students or supercomputer users figure out how to nudge just 5000 pieces of dead planet to create an asteroid attack that kills all life on earth
Now the thing is that asteroids are fractally sized thus one years winner could be bested with another group using different sizings or timing of asteroids
The computing could be distributed voluntarily across numerous personal computers just like various molecular computation calculations That way everytime a person started up a game called Global Destruction II they could happily note they were contributing to the cause
now the coolest thing is if an idiot savant could just gaze weirdly at the camera and then recite the 5000 vector coordinates to win the Asteroid math olympics

More productive, shirley, to calculate to create a new Earth-
sized planet in the same orbit as Earth but 180° apart, no? |
|
|
I'll let the Gobal Destruction II players know there was what appeared to be one vote against destroying the earth from my surroundings |
|
|
[MB] start lobbying Maybe you will get a supermajority |
|

if I perceive the F team as voting death once per day, although with dozens or even hundreds of coordinated voices per 24 hours that makes the current vote about 1000:1 favoring sudden death on all humans now, even if I were to abstain from voting |

[+] though it sorta sounds like an astrophysics class project. |
|
|
//if an idiot savant could just gaze weirdly at the camera// I think several of us could do that part already. |

First [+] for a while, [beany]. I'm liking this one. Bonkers, but not crazy. |

The complete (& suicidal) destruction of our only
current habitat, merely bonkers? |
|
|
I like it, but not for this, has anyone considered a
slightly less destructive use for the technique,
timing
the impacts to perturb mars into a slightly closer
orbit of the sun so it would be a bit more
habitable
maybe. |

Or is that what you meant [Maxwell]? |
