Aquari'ome
Oh, give me a home where the jellyfish roam, and the squid and the manta ray play. Where rubber bands power mylar fish, hour on hour, and the kids are entertained all Dayeeeee. | |
Turn the living room into an aquarium for your next theme party with helium filled Mylar sea creatures, made neutrally buoyant by the weight of a small elastic band motors. Jellyfish zip by, four foot long eels slither randomly around as an angel fish bumps gently against the side of your head and
kelp fronds sway to the bubble machine's ebb tide.
Yar.

Make the jellyfish slightly negativley bouyant and make the motors angled, and have them start and stop every second, to get that bobbing affect |

+ **PT13** Arrgh! These mermaids is anytomicly correct! Arrgh! Where's me mug o' rum? |

A bun for the sub-header, if nothing else. |

the buffalo in the original version are
jealously crying - shame on you ! |

Move into a bungalo and remove the roof.Wait for rain. |

Best summary line I've seen in months. And you avoided the use of the P-word. As many an [+] as I can muster in your direction. |

elastic band motors? surely rechargable batteries (you'd be surprised how much energy can be stored in even a single AAA battery) and light-weight motors (with recharging stations around the house) would be more convenient for your average party goer [+] |
And what has this to do with cats? |
I've done this without the elastic band motors. Fish-shaped mylar balloons, ballasted with clay, work great. |
Elastic band motors on balloons, which I have built and tried, only last a few seconds. Bun anyhow. |
This immediately reminded me of one of my favourite Simpsons episodes where Homer suggests that he runs away from his persecution (wrongly accused of sexual molestation)- by starting a new life 'Under the Sea'... |
The P-word is the one that people have a tendency to throw into ideas that are only tangentally related to them with the hope that, as popular halfbakery concepts, it will boost their vote count. |
You don't need no stinkin' motors! Just set up a couple of tall fans in opposite corners of the room and soon your fishies will be schooling in circles. |
Anyone up for a game of pin the fluke on the cetacean? Narwahl darts? How about bobbing for plankton? Or maybe "Name that species pushed to the brink of extinction by a combination of global warming, commercial over-harvesting of the sea-bed, and human incursion into traditional aquatic habitats"? |
[hidden truths], you mean like the C-word? I think I get it now. Thanks. |

How many millions of dollars would this cost? And would they be scuba diving in it? And you wouldn't have to use helium, air would work well enough. |
I think [BJS] seems to think there is water invovled, not sure, but that's what I think. |
How many millions of dollars would this cost? Depends on how ambitious you are. It could be as cheap as 0.0001 millions or as expensive as 10000 millions. |
Would they be scubadiving in it? No, I don't think they would be scuba-diving in it. |
And you wouldn't have to use helium, air would work good enough. And Bingo was his name-o |
BJS seems to have too much helium in his air mixture. |

What Canuck said about fans is entirely correct. Little motors on the balloons are not needed. But neither is much fan-power. I have done the trick with ballasted fish balloons, and prefer the dreamy effect that results from normal air currents. This really only works in wintertime, without open flames. |

Long ago, there was a BC comic strip where they did something like this to the cave of the guy who hates water. |
Of course water is involved with aquaria. |
Our neighbours used to have a terraria. Damn thing used to yap like crazy every time anyone walked past. It's gone now - presumed murdered by an intolerant cat. |
//airaria// - nicely palindromic.
How about 'Atmospheria'? (or -ium, since theres only one of them...) |
Oh [2 fries] I am so sad. A friend threw a swamp-themed party and I filled the Alligators (rafts) up with with helium to reify the aquari'ome but it didn't work! They just sat there. |

<hangs head, leaves the garden path> |
'Tis rarely a good thing to be led down the garden path. Which I've never understood. Doesn't it lead to the garden?... ...and this person taking you to the garden. What? Are they going to make you weed it or something? Do you have to pick rocks? Is it a stinging nettle garden? Does anyone know the origin of this expression? Is it like Biblical or something? |
Oh yeah, by the way, crocodiles float better. |
but how does this idea tie in with an LTA blimp carrying a cat
in a harness under it? |
But that link [pashute]... certainly takes it a step farther than I had imagined. Thanks for that. |

Alright! Now that's what I'm talking about. [link] |

How'd I miss this one? [+] |

That's very cool (in the fresh link). Those dolphins are going
pretty quick. |
They just need some inflatable-flailing-tube kelp and ginormous helium filled bubbles... |

Don't be so hard on yourself, it Was 16 years ago. |

I remember it fondly. It was a Wednesday. I don't know what day I posted it, but I just had a Wednesday flashback just now. |

//Wednesday flashback//
"Did you ever have a NORMAL day?"
"Yeah, once. It was a Thursday." (from "I, Robot") |

Heh. I remember that line. Classic. |

Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday are still up for grabs then... |
