(Spurred by another idea)

Suppose you have houseguests (or maybe your kids) who don't always remember to flush and wash hands after using the facilities. The new intelliflush system works as follows:

1. Toilet system detects addition of solid or liquid waste, and activates door lock. 2. Sink system detects user washing hands (not just the flow of water, but hands actually IN the water stream) 3. User presents hands to an automatic air-dryer, which after drying the hands flushes the toilet, activates a puff of air freshener, and unlocks the door.

Clean air, clean hands, flushed toilet!

I have to say, the fact that a hand dryer roasts dirty air and sticks it to your moist hands is something that bothers me every time I use a university hand dryer.

I have heard this theory [UB], but I always figured that the air should be effectively pateurised by the heat, destroying the bacteria. Exactly how hot do you reckon these machines get?

I seem to remember reading an article last year where someone studied the issue, and verified scientifically exactly what UnaBubba said---the hot air of the hand dryer provides a perfect environment for bacteria to thrive.

They just dont see our vision! Never-the-less, I hear you, and think its definately an improvement on what I wrote.

Yes, [shinobi], we struggle in vain. But with clean, dry hands!

Why would someone go to the trouble of turning on the water, and then not wash?
