From Wikipedia:

Premise:

Twelve inventors and their products are chosen from a pool of hundreds by four judges. The 12 semi-finalists are broken down into four groups of three, with each episode focusing on a different group of three. Each of the three semi-finalists in each group receives $50,000 to improve their inventions and compete to become one of the four finalists. In the show's live finale, the four finalists present a 30-second commercial advertisement for their product, with the home audience voting by phone for the winner. The winner receives $1,000,000 worth of business support, entrepreneurial counsel, physical resources, and prize money.

So all I'm suggesting here is that we pick an idea, ( a good one), do whatever to help develop it, and pitch it on the show. And then, without ever announcing the site on which this idea was put forth, we watch this thing win a cool million.

Something genuinely halfbakerian, like a small hullabaloon or a tumbleweed dispenser.

The Japanese series that predated this. Just in case someone thinks there's anything American about American Inventor. [jutta, Jul 06 2007]

It sounds like they're looking for something which is (a) a product, and (b) useful enough that people might be persuaded to buy it - these criteria drastically narrow down the possible Halfbakery candidates. I'd therefore like to nominate ... <drumroll> ... "Spravy" (link)

I've never watched the show, but I understand it's as much about presentation as the invention itself.

I suggest we hire an exceptionally attractive actress to present the invention. Having said that, I think they do some pretty thorough back ground check before they pony up the cool million.

Yeah, I watched an episode of that show. (The one where they were milking the lives of the 12 contestants for personal tragedy.) It was terrible.

Oh. I was expecting something along the lines of American Gladiator, only fought by 'bakers with 'bakery tools.

I've got half a trident here (the blunt end) and half a net (the gaps - not the threads). Any half-mirmillos out there?

Of course, they couldn't have done it without the help from that English champion of repetition, E. S. Smith. (He was later knighted for his achievements.)
