Appliance with connector along side.
For example, for an electronic appliance, rather than
attaching the USB directly into the device there is a tunnel
alongside the appliance which protects the wire from
bending and the connection from breaking.

Milwaukee M12 Compact Charger and Power Source
https://www.milwauk...Chargers/48-59-1201 It's a thing that goes on top of a Milwaukee M12 tool battery, and can charge the M12 battery from USB or charge your phone from the M12 battery via USB. The USB output port (for the latter) is arranged this waythat's the sideways protrusion at the topthe cable goes down the side. In the fourth image, you can see a "[USB symbol] OUT" label on it. Unfortunately, there is no photo there of that connector in use. The USB input connector and barrel connector are both oriented so the cable sticks straight out from the device. StarTech right-angle cables
https://www.startec...ch_term=right+angle As an alternative, you can get cables with right-angle plugs on them. But it's not quite as good. StarTech also makes left-angle cables, though only 57 of them vs. 279 right-angle cables. [notexactly, Nov 14 2019]

Some years ago, I bought a Samsung TV which had all the
rear connectors (power, HDMI, RCA sets, USB) flush like this,
and I thought "finally, they've got the idea!".
Then it got damaged (earthquake) and I had to buy a new
one. Aaand they went back to the perpendicular nonsense... |

There are compact USB "A" right-angle interposer connectors that do exactly this. |
