Thinking back to those hot summer days, I still wonder why the alligator snapping turtles would show up only when we did. I'd grab a hold of one of the two foot diameter shells and the turtle would pull me down, down, deeper, colder and deeper still until I thought my lungs would burst; too dark to see the other slimmy things bumping into me.

I think a fiberglass harness with a rear handlebar that the turtle could glide into would distribute my weight's pull more evenly on the turtle's tender shell.

This has already been done....... http://www.sunrises.../turtle-scooter.jpg
......although if you do it underwater, it's not baked, it's poached....or simmered, or something...... [normzone, Dec 28 2004]

Would this work for alligators as well?

That would give you turtle soup, n'est-ce pas?

I dunno about 'skinning dipping', but I am glad that the other things are 'slimmy'. The fat ones could eat you whole!.

[scout] is right. This happened twenty years ago and the turtle pulled me up river it was so strong. Everytime I see an SUV flying through a stream bed in a commercial I cringe. {normzone}, [Dr Currey], this is a fresh water species, no salt water involved hot or cold.
