Cat cafés are common in Tokyo and probably in a lot of other Japanese cities. These are places where you can pay to spend time cats. I'm sure they have them in other places, but I've not seen one in an airport waiting lounge waiting area yet, even in Japan.
Many people are full of angst at the airport
for various reasons and spending quality time at a petting zoo/café could be the ideal way to calm their nerves.
A variety of friendly animals would be on offer, ranging from cats (as expected) to the increasingly popular capybara, with passengers in this case being able to splash around in the water with them should they choose. Specially trained dogs (equipped with locator tags) could be taken for a walk around the terminal building, and for those who really must, there's even a padock with horses and ponies to groom and feed and trot around on.
note* All animals have a great life of total luxury and get to spend lots of outdoor time to balance up the periods of airport petting and all of those treats.

Well cats were once worshipped along with so many other things no longer worshipfully relevant... |
