Aeolian Crutches

When the wind blows, make music

As I was standing in the wind today, my crutches began to sing in the wind. My crutches are aluminum with lines of holes along the length. The problem? They only play one note.

My forearm crutches feature hand grips and I had the idea to fit keys to the underside of the grips which would open holes to create different notes. By default, all holes would be plugged until a key was pressed. Each key would open the appropriate hole to make a note. As I stand in the wind, I would be able to press keys to make notes, and henceforth, a song.

       I'm picturing a slide trombone type action.

       //I'm picturing a slide trombone type action// I wish that I could give [2fries] a bun for the anno. Almost an idea in itself. This would work nicely with the new, energy absorbing crutches <link>.

       I don't know if you meant to, but you've created a very evocative and moving piece of prose there K. [+}

       I can see you playing your crutches, [klaatu]. What a lovely image.

       [Klaatu] Wow. This could work with my idea for Aeolian Pipe Dream. Changing the level of the liquid in the crutch using a bladder could alter pitch and scale.

       I see I've already commented on this, but again, his might be the most moving post I've ever seen on the HB, it's really beautiful. The idea that somebody needing crutches would look at them and ponder how to make them beautiful is pretty inspiring.
