Regular Scrabble, but with a vocabulary of Acronyms. Here I use 'acronyms' to encompass true acronyms (those pronounced as a word, e.g. Radar, NASA) and pseudo-acronyms (those spelled out, e.g. ASAP, HVAC, WWF). I don't recommend abbreviations because those are less standardized (hard to say what has
been accepted).
Might need to set a minimum limit for the acronyms, as a game with lots of 2 letter acronyms would get boring fast. Maybe allow shorter acrynoms as the game nears the end.
Useful b/c acronyms are a big part of our everyday language, why not have a game that rewards knowledge of them? If the acronym is unknown to the other players, the person laying the tiles must be able to give the full name or phrase.
Downside is it gives players with technical, professional, or gov/military background a clear advantage. Also, there is no available dictionary for this, so harder to settle disputes. Finally, may increase the acronym-ification of everyday life, which might be seen as undesirable.

At a guess, I'd say you're a Scrabble freak.
A more general idea, would be to write a Scrabble game rule book. Explaining multiple games you can play on a Scrabble board. |

whats the longest genuine acronym? |
|
|
The reasons I am Fishboning this:
1) It throws off the point structure of Scrabble tiles. The X and Q are worth a lot less if you are not restricted real words. |
|
|
2) Have you ever played a game of Scrabble where the board is so tight you can't play a single word. Imagine how much tighter it will get if nearly every conceivable two and three letter combination is allowable. |

So, a reluctant Fishbone, even though it is one of my favorite categories |

//no available dictionary for this//
Maybe not in a paper book, but there are several online. |

tsuka, and I quote //Wow. You made my most perverse linguistic dreams come true// |

[tsuka] Would it not be easier to remember the original name rather than the acronym? It looks more like Welsh than a Russian acronym. |

The Russians, they don't do things by half do th...no wait! |
|
|
ss, what is your acronym?? |
|
|
ss, I'm not a Scrabble freak, but do get frustrated that my parents always want to play the same old boring version of that game. Hopefully I can post some additional non-Scrabble ideas before to long :) |

[babyhawk], it's from the help file. It means: "Wasn't that cool, that thing I saw in that video game? Wouldn't it be neat if it was real?" Technically known as a WIBNI and is candidate for deletion here on the ha'bakery. |
