An extension on the "colour remover" idea: a quick access toolbar that lets you shut off buggy or large Java applets and JavaScript (including annoying popups), annoying sounds, large animations, and override bad colours, font sizes, etc...as the web becomes more interactive and multimedia-rich, "Show
Images" just doesn't cut it anymore. There can be a built-in zoom tool too.
Currently, most of this is found in Preferences in Netscape. Under IE, you have to be nearly psychic to find out where to change it (Internet Options/Security tab/Custom Level/).
Opera already does some of this. Hopefully the Mozilla folks will pick up on this.

The buttons for each potentially harmful feature (Java, JavaScript, Flash, music player plugins...) should "light up" as the page uses them, so you know what to turn off. It should also remember what's off on a page-by-page basis. |

(Unfortunately, the most common reason for doing this is to avoid crashing the browser; but once a Java applet or Flash plugin has downed by Netscape, it's too late to click any buttons.) |

Never have problems with Flash, but Java crapplets crash browsers regularly. Would be nice to be able to kill them before they get going, or even just interrupt the download... |
