Under the dashboard, forward of the gear stick, would be a good place for a little hearth. Feed it now and then with a Lincoln log. Enjoy the spreading warmth and flickering flames as a thin trail of white smoke escapes from the small smokestack.
Then park your cosy car near a snow-swollen landscape,
flatten your seat and give your honey a hug in the pulsing orange glow and staccato popping of the embers.

(?) Only in a Convertible
http://www.smh.com.....html?oneclick=true "Last Wednesday, three men in their 20s were found dead in a car parked on a country road in Ueno village, about 120 kilometres north-west of Tokyo. The car was sealed and filled with carbon monoxide from a charcoal stove." [contracts, Mar 01 2005]

Quaint! I can imagine cars with little chimneys puffing rolls of smoke. |
[bris] Not according to the link. Idea edited. |
I can imagine this in one of those silly little SUVs with a tent built into them (link), roasting little marshmallows. |
Why little marshmallows? Why not the big ones? |
Because it's a little fire. Though now that you mention it, why do we limit ourselves to ~1" diameter marshmallows on real fires? |
I don't know, [World], but it's a damn good question. Incidentally, I've always wanted to be catapulted into a gigantic marshmallow. |
Hahah! Great illustration, [bris]! |
Great Idea !! I don't know how anyone could vote against it |
I have a 72 Chevy truck with a glove box big enough to put a little stove in it |
I may have to try this sometime... I have already made two little stoves that are smaller than that glove box for other things, there would be nothing to it... |
Some good music a nice little crackling fire... |
Interesting that people are voting against it and not saying why, I would be interested in that |
....<faint plopping sound as TheRoberts replaces thumb in mouth> |
[TheRoberts], don't mind UnaBubba - - I know I don't. Just have a chuckle and let it slide. I may be saying that because I'm envious and unsatisfying in bed, or maybe because it's not important. |
[shad], [UB], I think it's pretty clear why I voted against it by virtue of my link. It is a preferred method of suicide. |
//It is a preferred method of suicide// Hibachi hara kiri for inept barbecuers? |
Secretly, I think people want to see what their big red-hot engines looks like while they are driving. Some large pyrex screen could do that. |

when I click on the link [contracts], it goes to a registration page. |

bugmenot.com will be a useful resource for you in the future, Dentworth. :-) |

Some halfbakers are just so consistently marvelous, that our expectations are raised. I'd put FarmerJohn in that category. |
I think this idea makes cars even more consumptive & pollutive, so it has negative appeal to me, but I'm not going to fishbone it. |
But if I see one of the great HB icons start echoing uncreatively, well then, I may toss some fish thataway so they get good feedback. I assume all the HB regulars like feedback. |
Hmm... apart from the fact that you'll get first degree burns and whiplash if you get rear-ended, it's not such a bad idea... |
The Roberts,UnaBubba, I find it a bit shallow that just because A person is intellectually productive that one would deem all ideas as wrong. |
Though I could agree that it is difficult to give one credit when they cry wolf. ( To make a prophecy daily and be right once in your life - accidentally - does not make one a clairvoyant.) |
The Roberts, I was interested in why people thought that this was a bad idea that is ALL. I didn't say anything about your sexual inadequacy or jealousy and I have no clue why you brought that up and I will not take it back even if I had said it |
UnaBubba, My 72 Chevy truck does not weigh 5000lbs....... |
Relatively, the stove would not be dangerous ( with proper installation, apt users bla bla bla bla ) |
I do agree pollution would be increased (not significantly with a catalytic stove) |
I guess I could agree that an infrared heater with a video of a fire and the sound may be as soothing |
With the proper ventilation, I think the only thing dangerous about this would be speedbumps or the surprise potholes that always pop up in my neighborhood. And probably trying to stoke the fire and drive at the same time but that's what the passenger's there for. |
Oh, and you could have a little fireplace poker, shovel and brush thingy on a keychain. |
I think we're all missing the most important thing of all-- how the hell is Santa supposed to get in through the chimney?
Is he supposed to carry a slim jim? |
So you're telling me to stuff Santa right up my tailpipe? |
I once designed a huge cigarette lighter for my car that was fed from the fuel line. I was going for a flame about five inches high appearing from the dash. I stopped building it when I realised quite *how* dangerous it really was. |
Further, I suspect that [UB]'s "5000lb" comment relates to a troll, now long gone, who referred to his own 5000lb Chevy truck at least twice daily. |
I've heard people brag about how fast their car is, how big it is, how many gadgets it has, how it's been modded, but I've never before heard of someone proud of how much their car weighs. |
Yeah, it's nothing when you consider that my car is 16 feet long. So there. |
You could use manufactured pressboard logs to avoid exploding knots...along with any litter you might be otherwise tempted to throw out the window. Why clutter up the landscape when you have a perfect excuse to burn something? |
Exhaust emissions testing for aftermarket item? If the "Check Fireplace" light is not on you should be ok. Better make it CARB legal for use in California. |
