Picture the scene. You make frequent visits to one of your favourite places, but on several occassions someone has sneakily stolen your coat without you noticing that it has gone. You strongly suspect that this person doesn't like the cut of your cloth, but this is hard to prove - so you decide to deploy your secret device called "A Pocket Lights Now"...

This device is hidden inside one of the pockets on the coat, and is timed to become active if the coat is removed and taken away without prior defusing. You leave your coat unattended, warily but prepared, and then you wait.

It's the end of the evening, and the place is clearing. You have been distracted and your coat has gone again, but not to worry - you calmly press button A on your transmitter and the zip on the coat locks. You then press button B and one of the pockets begins billowing clouds of orange smoke. You follow the trail, recording the guilty one's vain attempts to divest themsleves as they are quickly enveloped. A crowd has now gathered as you press button C and "The Ride of the Valkyries" commences booming from a small but powerful speaker concealed in the fabric of the jacket.

At this point, you press button A again, releasing the zip and allowing the guilty one to make their escape without further embarassment, as you contentedly retrieve your jacket and anticipate replaying the events when you get home.

Nothing to do with poker, then?

I think you need one of those coats that cries when stolen, or maybe gets even.

       another pun? <sigh>
po, Feb 21 2006

not a pun - more of a metonymy or even a spoonerism

And this involves light how? Just put a bomb in your coat pocket. I fail to see how you could be responsible if a thief were to get hurt.

If someone didn't like the cut of your cloth why would they take a coat?

What about hats? Some bugger stole my best hat.
wagster, Feb 23 2006

//bugger stole// Is that anything like mink?

hd - idea not really about a coat - you need to look little deeper.

wagster - someone stole your hat? then you need to deploy the variation "a peak alights now"

2 Fries - you win the prize for "bugger stole" comment.

Ah, so the coat is just a metaphor then?

       What's a meta for?

What if the thief doesn't zip up the jacket?

You're being too literal. It's not about coats.
