Tonight I came home from work, read my email, listened to the radio, and then I turned off everything. I leaned back in my chair, marvelling at the fact that the nine year old in the opposite apartment was not setting something on fire or throwing something down the stairs. The silence was indeed golden,
until........RING! My cordless phone, which was about 3 feet away, rang at what seemed to be about 3,988 decibels. I know, it was more like 80dB but that was probably 50dB louder than the sound level in the room at the time. It scared the bejesus out of me. I want a phone that can sense the noise level of the room it is in, and turn the volume of the ringer up or down to match.

It could get progressively louder on each ring, in case you have fallen asleep. (WTAGIPBAN) |

I might need one before long. Thanks. |

aah, I didn't realise they'd already done it for main volume, why the hell didn't they do it for ringtones ? <throw out of window>[neilp]'s spv</throw out of window> |

//I might need one before long.// - don't worry, HB addiction gets better after about 5 months |
|
|
I assumed you might need a new job due to HB addiction.... a foolish guess in the wrong direction. |

It's more than once my door buzzer has cut through my carefully-orchestrated calm like an electrified knife. Top idea. A subtle cough for the first buzz would suffice, followed by a tiny, tinny voice saying "excuse me..?" on the second. I'm fed up of almost messing myself whenever I'm relaxing and friends pop round unexpectedly. Loud, harsh electric noise when you're not expecting it is almost the same as a powerful electric shock, in my experience. |

OH, Gamma hydroxy butyrate. Nope. Nothing stronger than the occasional wine cooler. More like I'm getting divorced. Need second job to pay alimony. |

[World] yeah, I def. meant HB rather than GHB addiction ho hum. |
|

They've taken to calling it GBH in my neck of the woods. And for good reason, too, apparently. |

Such a great idea. Unless this person's lying on their resume, this has been done, though I'm guessing it was done as a student project. (link 3) |

<Unless this person's lying on their resume, this has been done> So, I can throw away this patent application?????? |

Thought sure someone had posted a cell phone version of this here, but I can't find it. |

My cordless phone starts quietly and gets louder. It's a BT Freestyle 1000. |

Good idea - but as the name implies, nvrfastenuf. Damn.
Don't let it bug you - can't tell you how many brilliant ideas I've had that turned out to be 'baked via Google's Mindreading idea-stealers. |

A single notation on someone's online resume and it's baked? I don't think so. + |

neilp - I think you're suffering from HBPSD (see link) |
