52 Pick Up Plus

A more challenging version of beloved older sibling joke card game

52 pick up is demeaning little joke of Saying "Let's play 52 pick" up to a younger relative. When they agree to play or at least before they shout "no no no!", you throw the deck of cards all round the room and say "Now you pick them up."

As a movie plot the following improved game could involve death threats from a mob boss to both teams. ( So could a bowling movie.)

GAME: Follow the leader and pick up the cards along the way.

Three players: the Thrower, the Follower and the Picker Upper.

The Thrower has to drop a card every ten steps. The Follower follows the Thrower and is in constant cell phone communication with the p. u. The Follower can pick up cards, but can also just tell the Picker Upper where to look. The Picker Upper tries to pickup all the cards.

Cards tossed from a bridge or into a dumpster or placed behind the screen door with the door bell rung may be harder to retrieve, then those just dropped on the sidewalk.

The thrower only gets points if he/she can go back and find any cards the other teams fails to get. Fifty cards wins.

Local rules might change the number of steps to a unit of time, say thirty seconds if you have an hour to play. Or limit where the cards can drop. or whatever.

( If it caught on, it would sell many decks of cards.)

// The thrower only gets points if he/she can go back and find any cards the other teams fails to get. //

So if the follower and picker can't reach the card easily, but they can destroy it or cause it to not be found by the thrower, the thrower can't get the point either.

Does that count the same as a card picked up?

Clearly if the follower and picker find 50 cards, they win. If the thrower hides and retrieves 3 cards then he wins. But what if the thrower only retrieves 2 cards and the picker found less than 50?

Well in the movie the rules would be defined by the guy who writes the script for the mob boss.

In real life this game is likely just an excuse to go to the local bar for a half hour and tell a few lies.

Make up any additional rules you feel are needed. It's your deck, do you want it back?

       Isn't it 54, including jokers...

My little sister said the same and refused to pick up the jokers.

Sounds like the plot to Die Hard 3.

Anyone remember that guy who could throw a card into an unpierced watermelon?

Hum a few bars and I might.

No. Depends what you mean "into". Here's one of a guy throwing them into an already cut open one. Seems to suggest going in through the skin of the watermelon is a bit of a bugger, or he'd be doing it.

Also, with a clip title like "Ricky Jay penetrates a watermelon" I was relieved to see it was just a card trick...

Didn't watch that clip all the way through, didja [nmrm]?

No, I delegated that to you.

Simply excise the neurons that hold that memory, put them in a chilled delivery service and I shall experience it.
