I grew up beside a railway line populated by steam trains. They fascinated me as a child and still do.
4-6-2 was a common wheel configuration for steam train locomotives, so it's only natural that it gives its name to this device.
It's just a little engine which screw fits unto the type of kettle
that usually goes directly unto a gas ring.
The engine takes the place of the customary escape whistle. Now when the pressure builds up, the little engine begins to run, its wheels and cranks spinning in mid air, with the excess steam puffing and venting in realistic imitation of a full sized locomotive.
Also available in 2-4-2, 2-3-2, etc

Nice. I'd actually buy one. I'd probably opt for a
smaller engine if available but I'd definitely want
one. And I haven't used a kettle since the advent of
the microwave. |
