Enough of the open/closed binary hegemony. Business are never purely open or closed. Often they are opening, closing, close (in the case of the neighborhood sushi spot), busy, low in stock, paranoid, unwelcoming, snooty, or hospitable. So, hang an attractive origami pyramid in the window and write open
and closed on two sides if you must. That leaves the third side for something closer to reality.

judging by your description, it would just flip around open
and close and non-existent at random time of the day, if the
pyramid is free floating on a string. |
