Naturally, I propose we form a 64-bit doomsday cult, as
not only does this give us a few billion more years to set
our affairs in order, but it also means that the world will
end on my birthday. |

Are we still going to be using 32 bit Unix in 2038? I'm a little more worried about the 2036 "99942 Apophis" bug. |

Well, it's well after 9pm and everything here is still
fine, so I guess we can cross this one off the list. |

If there are any still-living priests of the Mayan
religion, they will no doubt explain the small error in
their calculations, and give us a new end-of-world
date to look forward to. |

//If there are any still-living priests of the Mayan religion, they will no doubt explain the small error in their calculations, and give us a new end-of-world date to look forward to.// When 12/21/12 passes without the world ending, I'm sure the History Channel will be able to find aformentioned priest. |

That's a coincidence. As far as I'm concerned the whole world ends on my deathday. |

Physics is a 64 bit doomsday cult :) |

2038, huh? And I was naive enough to think we were OK until the "Year 10,000 problem". |

Children generally have no memory of anything that occured before they turned 2. When 2016 rolls around, you can start recruiting people who have no memory of the Y2k Bug. This gives you 22 years to accumulate your following until it is time to revise the calculations. |

Between now and 2016, you may need to focus on turning Unix from a computer language into a cult. (Claiming that the name is a corrpution for the term applied to men who have been "fixed" may or may not help.) Good luck! |

//focus on turning Unix from a computer language*
into a cult// The punchline is left as an exercise for
the reader. |

//most folks will remember that the Y2K scare was a let-down//
That'll be because we were warned about it well in advance and took steps to mitigate it. If only we had treated the Mayan End of the World prophecy with as much seriousness we wouldn't all be about to die horribly with the laughter of the Gods ringing in our ears as we shuffle off our collective mortal coil. Oh, why didn't we listen! Why!? |

Particualrly with reference to the pedantry. |
