"Duck" and "Ducking" Word Processor Verification   (+1, -1)  [vote for, against]
Program that sees you write the word "duck" or "ducking" and says "Are you sure you meant to say duck?"

D and F are next to each other on the keyboard and I would gladly put up with having to specify that "Yes, I did indeed mean to type duck" on those very rare occasions that I'm actually writing about a duck. I use the other word like most people use commas so to have to go back and change the D to F constantly is a pain. Whoever put the F by the D is much, much, much worse than Hitler.

cron runs the algorithm only once per day, just before 0000 GMT/UTC, so it won't have been scanned yet. It's still the 23rd here, whereas in most parts of the Southern U.S. it's only 1855 ...

The code uses the HB search algorithm to check for the H word, and pipes the resultant flat text to a temp file. Then it compares the last file with today's version. Any new occurrences are piped to another temp file, and then the date of the idea/anno is checked; so if you go back and edit an anno from yesterday or before, it'll be ignored.

The clever bit was getting it to append a new anno to the "Days since ..." thread, although if that thread's ever deleted we will just start a new one under that name.
-- 8th of 7, Nov 23 2020

Yes, we need no feather discussion of that other thread.
-- doctorremulac3, Nov 23 2020

The quality of this discussion is going down.
-- pocmloc, Nov 23 2020

We know, but it won't help if you just go wigeon on about it.
-- 8th of 7, Nov 23 2020

-- spidermother, Nov 24 2020

You shoul be grateful that it's not fish puns, or even giant cephalopods ... you'd end up complaining about Architeuthis dux ...

Don't want to budgerigar-ous discussion like this, but from heron in, mallard, if I keep raven on I'll be owling at the moon and reaching for a parakeet-chen scissors.
-- spidermother, Nov 24 2020

Is there any chance of clawing this discussion back on the subject? Beakause this is flapping stupid.
-- pocmloc, Nov 24 2020

Admit it, [doc]; you posted this just so you would have an excuse to mention Gurkwe.
-- pertinax, Nov 24 2020
