Works like any other gym treadmill, except this one only has a single piece of wire upon which the user must balance and walk as it moves underfoot.

Beginners will chose "the thick, slightly flattened rope" option, whilst advanced élite users will graduate to a speed walk on a slack piano wire.

Delux machines come with a selection of projected vertiginous views that move accurately underneath as you step gingerly forward.

to have servos sway the cable as a half-mile cable would sway by itself might be hard, but should not be un-doable. with the current fad (at least in germany) for slack-line walking, this might prove a hit.

[+] I believe a slack rope is easier to walk than a tight one, so your beginners to elite adjustment would be pretty easy - no need to change the rope itself - just move some pulleys. Plus, as the rope gets tighter, you have further to fall :-)

I do believe that "jump rope treadmill" and "hot coals treadmill" need to be developed in their own right.

I could be wrong - while those two have their own appeal, the inevitable broken glass treadmill would not hold a similar appeal.
