I keep hearing about how Afghanistan is loaded with tunnels that can transport an Afghani soldier all around the country and possibly even Neptune. The way I figure it, these tunnels would surely have to be susceptible to cave-ins, and therefore a large bass cannon should have some effectiveness, but I'm not a scientist and really don't know. The bass cannon would just be a big ass speaker emitting low frequencies that would, hopefully, shake the ground to the point where these caves could collapse. Maybe something like this exists? Explosives would be fun, but way too messy. Oh, and yes, I saw the "earthquake weapon" idea, but this is my interpretation of it.-- AfroAssault, Sep 23 2001 I believe the military('s) of America and Britain have been looking into this for some time (after Vietnam (loads of tunnels) and WW2 (trenches) respectivly). The power required to get a base amp to do this over any range in far too high. The idea of shaped charges in the ground has been tried and will work over homogenous areas of ground. As soon as you get into an area of mixed strata than the resonance of the rocks changes and the force is not transmited. All in I think they all find it cheaper to carpet bomb people.-- dare99, Sep 23 2001 I have always believed that moles (the furry underground variety) are much under-used as a military resource-- po, Sep 23 2001 tesla came up with something like this it has been reported. america is not subtle enough to pursue an idea like this when we have so many gosh darn big assed bombs. i say we get one of them worm things from dune and set him loose to do his business.-- 1MilesWest2, Oct 31 2001 random, halfbakery
