Infrared Voice Hailing Device   (+3, -3)  [vote for, against]
Short range, line of sight voice communication with cars near you

Basically, it's a short range communication device via infrared LED's and receivers placed on the front, rear and sides of the vehicle. Small device converts voice modulation from in-dash microphone into infrared pulses to the selected transmitting side of the vehicle.

Provides about 100' range, line of sight, and can be used in place of flashing colored lights, LED window displays, boating flags, etc..

Using Infrared, there is no bandwidth to "crowd", and unlike CB's, it only reaches the cars a short distance away. If equipped as standard equipment on cars, the possibilities are endless:

To car in front: Your gas cap is open. You're driving too slow, please move over so I can pass. Get off the road, drunk.
To car that just cut you off: Hey thanks, asshole
To car behind you: We're turning left here
To car next to you: Please vacate yourself from my blind spot.
To big semi truck: Hey- I'm drafting you, don't slam on the brakes

Even for a prototype, a system could be created and installed on a vehicle for less than $100..

It's technically practical (I even agree with your pricing), but my opinion is that it would be mostly used by jerks and morons to abuse and harrass other road users. Which is a real shame, because otherwise it's a good idea. Fishbone I'm afraid, but for the people who would misuse it, not for you, thcgenius.

Politeness sold seperately, I'm afraid. Just got back from 300 miles of Michigan Idiot Drivers, and I can think of a dozen times I'd have used it for evil... but not one for good.
