Restaraunt Menus should have an extra option called "I Just Don't Know" for those who find it impossible to decide what they want from an extensive list of very nice options.
If you order this option you get a huge plate, with a bit of everything else on the menu on it.-- 8th of 7, Mar 22 2003 Mommy http://www.halfbakery.com/idea/mommyA take-out version of this idea. [Cedar Park, Oct 17 2004] Sampler?
Sometimes you can ask the waiter to have the chef "cook for you" and just take a gamble on what she or he might prepare. I've done this several times and haven't been disappointed yet. Most often in Thai restaurants and most often when eating with a group.-- bristolz, Mar 22 2003 I've done the same with Thai and Chinese fare as well, bristolz. Learned from my Pop to ask if there's a special dish that's not on the menu, as he'd have a dinner that was almost a religious experience. Elsewhere, <refrain>when in doubt, order the club sandwich</refrain>.How about a tree menu?-- thumbwax, Mar 22 2003 In my favorite restaurant on earth, there's never a problem with choosing, because there's only one choice. It's usually 4-6 courses, and changes each night depending on the chef's whim and what was among the best offerings at the market that day. No restaurant offering a menu of choices has ever equalled this one.-- beauxeault, Mar 22 2003 Sounds like Mom.-- bristolz, Mar 22 2003 Try going to a buffet lunch: you get the plate, then you get to put a little bit of everything on it.-- DrCurry, Mar 22 2003 And those buffets are usually the height of culinary art, too.-- bristolz, Mar 22 2003 So, kinda like yum cha then?-- RoboBust, Mar 23 2003 "soupçon." I like that word. Or an ort.-- bristolz, Mar 23 2003 Maybe give it some fancy French-sounding name (or other language) so that you don't have to feel embarrased about ordering the "No se flambe."-- polartomato, Mar 23 2003 //If you order this option you get a huge plate, with a bit of everything else on the menu on it.//
They have plates on your menus?-- Bert6322, Mar 23 2003 Shirley you have heard of the *Blue Plate Special*-- thumbwax, Mar 23 2003 La congrégation complète des orgues crus et un bon toscan chianti serait seulement charmante. Ftftftftftftft-- Shz, Mar 24 2003 I think a more pleasing option is for the menu to have buttons by each food selection. You first press the buttons beside all the menu items that appeal to you. Then you press a "Random Select" button that shuffles your choices and randomly chooses one.-- tchaikovsky, Nov 11 2004 I would order this every time! [8th] - I suspect you are either like me, or else has to suffer eating out with someone who is.-- wagster, Nov 11 2004 random, halfbakery
