Mushroom clouds have been the symbol of the end of civilization for a while now, but they could theoretically be created for entertainment as they are quite an incredible site.
Rather than relying on raw explosive power, you'd create a mixture of smoke creating elements that would rise as they were ignited, formulated to burn and give of gases that were visible and lighter than air such that a few tons of the stuff would lift itself into the air and form the classic cloud shape.
You might add rainbow colors to make it more festive than apocalyptic.
Just the way we look at fireworks that are after all, explosive devices that could kill us, and indeed in different forms have been killing us for centuries, we could enjoy the beauty of a safe, made for fun rather than death mushroom cloud.
Perhaps they'd be an element of celebrating the avoidance of a nuclear holocaust all these years with the hope to continue that for another 70 years and beyond. "We're not scared of you nuclear annihilation! We mock you with a pretty analog of your destructive power! We've avoided Armageddon for 70 years and we'll do it for another 70, and 70 after that! We declare victory, but swear to be diligent as well!"
Celebrate the victory of life and civilization over death and chaos but perhaps have a little reminder of how serious OTHER mushroom clouds could be.
