each religion would call in with update number of believers

and would be told that they still are in a vast minority, and asked why "their god" has chosen to have a minority of the world believe in him (her, it)....maybe some religions would be exempt, if they have adequate historical evidence that theirs is the "true" god (such as being consistently persecuted for a few thousand years).

Sadly, the ones we have to worry about are all at the top of the table http://www.adherent...s_By_Adherents.html
Then again, maybe that's *why* we have to worry about them. [DrCurry, Oct 04 2004]

Bit off-topic, but... yay religion. http://www.bathyfor...m/Israeli_bulld.htm
A religious argument in progress... [moomintroll, Apr 10 2005]

What exactly does this solve? Certainly didn't stop the Branch Davidians, who must have been well aware that their 47-odd total was something of a minority when it came to believing in the divinity of their leader.

Add a live commentary by one of those guys that cover the horse-racing..

Into the lead goes Buddha, closely followed by Shiva with Jesus trailing behind by a length. As we approach the first hurdle its Buddha; Buddha now by a head but a late run from the Minotaur is threatening to break up the front runners. Minotaur on the inside looking strong now......and the Sun has fallen! (etc)

The link is fairly out of sync with data I've seen. I've always heard that Islam was the top dog, Christianity second, Buddhism third and Judaism pretty close behind--not in the "Other 3%".

I may just not 'member though--and this is a pretty tough science to nail down anyway.

Nah, Judaism is small - after all, it's very ethnocentric (if that's the word I'm groping for), and Israel is only little. Even if it does have big pointy teeth.

A couple issues:

1. What if the religion is popular today but didnt even exist when a less popular one wasnt doing so well in the ratings?

2. We already do polls on the number of people per religion.

3. This ignores the agnostic, atheist, and non-religious crowd.

All youre going to find out is which religion is more about mission-work and swelling its ranks than anytihng else. I'll give you a hint, it starts with C.
