i'm sure we've all downloaded (completely legally, of course) an mp3/ogg/wma with a glitch, error, missing half the song, corrupted, etc.
to delete this song requires you to search your hard drive for it outside of your player program and then press delete. it may be one of several songs with the exact same name (shopping for the best quality one), which makes it even harder to find the exact one. then you are liable to download it again by accident.
what we need is a button within the music player program itself that you can press after you hear a corrupted file. it then:
1. deletes the file from the hard drive forever.
2. searches the hard drive for exact copies of that file and deletes them, too.
3. searches other drives for exact copies of that file and deletes them, too.
4. prevents you from ever downloading the same file again. In fact an application that just displays progress bars is something I'd buy. Not sure what features the upgrade path might include.-- bristolz, Feb 21 2005 //In fact an application that just displays progress bars is something I'd buy.//
I've found that the installation programs for most software written for a Microsoft OS do this - I'll see one progress bar blip past, then another crawl past, then another, then yet another, then... at about this point, I'll wonder to myself as to the point of having a dozen different consecutive progress bars. Surely it defies the point of having them in the first place.-- Detly, Feb 21 2005 I've always wished there were more, though.-- bristolz, Feb 21 2005 [I just like watching the little progress bar. Second that. I've seen some lovely progress bars.
Is that a good name for a pub?-- normzone, Feb 21 2005 [bris]: Try Oracle, or Crystal Reports.-- angel, Feb 21 2005 A Visual Studio install provides a lot, too. It takes less time to flatten and re-install XP.-- bristolz, Feb 21 2005 I'd go to a pub called The Lovely Progress.
[insecure hasty backpedalling] In a straight way, I mean - in a straight way. [/insecure hasty backpedalling]-- friendlyfire, Feb 21 2005 I like the idea, but i'm bunning it /mostly/ for bristolz commentary-- photojunkie, Feb 21 2005 Love that progress bar anno, bris.-- krelnik, Feb 22 2005 A program that just displays progress bars is a license to print money! Every month you could release an update for it which when installed, runs a progress bar across the screen and changes nothing. Then you go back to running your progress bar app as it was, or if you prefer, you can reinstall the update.
Genius, pure genius...-- kmlabs, Mar 21 2005 [+] for bristolz revealing his secret addiction.
I think more imagination could be applied to progress bars. Instead of just having little green squares, or a grey rectangle that fills up with blue, why not have a little patches of cloversuddenyl sprout over the screen, and a cute little cow to come and eat it? When the cow gets the last of the clover, your program's ready.-- moomintroll, Mar 21 2005 Gender pronoun alert, [moomin]...-- Detly, Mar 22 2005 On-topic...winamp has a function like this. It's called "physically remove selected file," and it's under the REM menu on the playlist.
Sadly, baked.-- shapu, Mar 22 2005 [friendlyfire] - I'd like to think that The Lovely Progress, but I've noticed that The Lovely usually get stabbed in the back by the Unlovely And Heartless who tend to Progress a lot faster.-- wagster, Mar 22 2005 //Sadly, baked.// Sadly? Shouldn't it be a good thing that a good idea has made it past the half-baked stage to reality?-- brodie, Mar 22 2005 I like the way this is written. It's a shame that it was a bit of a waste.-- shapu, Mar 22 2005 // On-topic...winamp has a function like this.
WHHHATTTT?????
I've been using it for years and never knew of that. Thanks.
