mini yagi business card   (+4)  [vote for, against]
May be a good idea if you are trying to advertise your electronic radio communication business.

It a business card with a printed yagi antenna on it, it also have a miniature conductive magnet positioned 3/4th of the way.

For radios with a stiff metal antenna, you simply attacked the card's magnet to it, and (hopefully with the right design) point the antenna to a weak radio station.

If you have a mp3 player, you attach a special pass though headphone jack, and attach the other alligator clip to the mini antenna. Now you can point it to the weak station.

Other ideas for biz card directional attenna.

- Make a design for receiving wifi signals, if you cannot receive a station, and need to access it in a pinch. Then take the card out, and pull out its short stiff thin enameled copper wire, with a tiny rectangular sheet with two holes, and a dent between it.

To hook this flat connector, you bend the tiny rectangular sheet so that the sheet looks like this

where "_/\" is the bended sheet that have a hole in it, and the "----=" is the reverse SMA connector pin.

Line the two hole towards the pin, and shove it in. Adjust the mini directional antenna, and you are done.

Does this work? If you are a radio engineer, give this a shot.

Make a card that you can temporary attach (via magnet or adhesive) to any phone and increase its reception via induction(Since most phones do not have an external antenna attachment). Would come in handy in an emergency.

A yagi array is critically dependant on the spacing of the elements for correct operation, which is determined by the wavelength of the signal it's tuned to.

For WiFi (802.11b et al) at 2.4 Ghz, that's 124mm. Do the math ...
