sure would be nice to click slideshow, to get the full-size image displayed, clicking each fullsize image to go to the next.

I'm not quite sure what the question is, but I'll give it a shot.
If gnormal got a patent for this idea (in 2002) he might be able to make them pull down their websites. I don't think any of them are making much money out of this idea though (so any infringement damages would be outweighed by legal costs).
Now that I think about it, I think there was a news story last month about a company threatening lawsuits over a very similar invention... Yes publications (including websites) can be used to invalidate a patent.
