set up a site eg www.browserpark.com to which people set their browser homepage. within this site a a selection of pages containing neutral, pleasent and none too heavy download content.

it could be flowers, a plain color scheme, clouds, animals and so on. just something simple.

currently, i set my browser homepage to blank. this is because any portal homepage is graphically heavy and usually, i start the brower to go somewhere else. i also hate popup windows that major portals generate.

so this is an alternative to blank page.

How can something that's not blank be an alternative to a blank page? In that sense, every other page on the web is an alternative to a blank page.

I use about:blank because I don't want my browser to do anything until I tell it to.

The problem with "blank" is that you get no indication of whether you have a connection or not. At least I consider that to be a problem.

http://www.google.com is a good option i think, you can get almost anwhere on the net from there, and its very fast to load, plus it tells you if youre connected, a mother of a homepage if i may so so

I'm not sure why you would be using your browser to determine if you have a connection. If there is reason to doubt the connective status, I'm not going to rely on my browser for that information. On my XP the networking icon in my taskbar tells me right away. In any case, as soon as I try to access a page, my browser will tell me if I have a connection. It just doesn't do that until I ask it to.
