'So Far Away' Flyscreen   (+7)  [vote for, against]
It would be so fine to see your face at my door...

Screen printed flyscreens or fine bead curtains with the full sized image - facing inwards - of a dear, absent friend or lover.

Each time you open the door...

..... complete with dead flies all over their visage ... ? Oh yes, very endearing ....

I'd like to see certain people's faces on fly swatters.

Ooh ooh ooh! How about this? Each flyscreen is custom-made, and comes with a matching adhesive film that sticks to the door's glass. The adhesive film is covered with a seemingly uniform grid of fine lines, rather like the fly screen.

Miraculously, when the screen and film are both installed, the face of your beloved appears, shimmering.

How is it done? By carefully tweaking the pattern of wires on the screen, and lines on the film, so that Moiré interference recreates the image when viewed at the right angle. EDIT - since posted as almost an idea.

Can I get one with the depiction of some sort of carnivorous plant?

I like my fly screens ironic.

What are these magic fly-killing and fly-sticking flyscreens of which you speak? We do not have them here. I must search my bogan reference material to see if I can uncover the mystery...

//I like my fly screens ironic.// Yes, but cupric ones will last longer in wet climates.

The Photoshopped [Link] is a rough version of the idea. Note that from a distance the people are easier to see, but they begin to disappear as you get to the door. This image might work best if you print it out. With some photo enhancement, the screen image would show up better. As with the Marilyn Monroe - Albert Einstein illusion [other Link], proximity (as well as lighting, outside objects, etc.) will affect the clarity of your screen door image. And, it's all just a little bit creepy.

-- 8th of 7, Jan 19 2008

This would make me so so sad. :( I'd see the ones I miss and then when I try to get near they are gone... day after day--- I see you in the window, but when I walk up you fade... and it's only the EMPTY house... Oh god... I'm bawling now... :( oh!
