'Air Cuts   (+3, -1)  [vote for, against]
at last, something useful to do after checking in.

Shift lots of handy services air-side at airports, so, after you've gone through security you can:
get your 'air cut
have a dental check-in
get an eye test (aside: could iris scanners being installed at airports do glaucoma tests too?)
perhaps a pairdicure ?

I reckon this would beat sitting around being bored.

So simple I can't believe it's not been done. Shirley it exists?!

good pun. Suprisingly good idea too.

i like it! airports seem to be a sure way to get +'s, maybe its because we all understand your pain so well! + anyway

Proctology exams, pap smears, chiropractic exams...

Interesting - with a dramatic enough 'air cut 'n colour, some new clothes from the many fashion stores etc, you could end up appearing at your destination looking nothing like you did when you checked in. I bet that would fox a few of the automated passenger spying systems in place! +

Pairdicure? For both feet?
-- calum, Jan 07 2004

Baked, at least for the haircut part, at Fiumicino in Rome.
-- suctionpad, Jan 07 2004

If it is after the security check, they'll have to use blunt nosed safety scissors. The pairdicure would be out of the question.

When I last flew out of Manchester in Nov, there was a roving manicurist in the departure lounge.

How about a masseuse to wring out those tired muscles.

...while they perform the cavity search.

That the "unhappy ending" option...?
-- DrCurry, Jan 07 2004

I'll say.

Thus causing late flights ... this is a never ending cycle of disappointment/destruction!
-- Letsbuildafort, Jan 07 2004

You could get there by bus faster than pick-up by airliner.
-- Letsbuildafort, Jan 07 2004

Singapore airport already does this... the place is an entire indoor mall, behind security. Since it is a hub, most of the travellers never leave the airport. There is a movie theater, a video arcade, a hotel, many high end restaurants, salons, cafes, and designer clothing outlets.

I'm thinking now that air-side gymnasia would also be a bonus, esp. in the days of DVT.
