A well baked digital audio recorder. However, it is left on full-time... continuously overwrites old data. (flight recorder, yes?) Then if someone gives you a phone number, or tells a really good joke, or says something that you cannot believe they actually said, just pull out the recorder and have it trap the last minute (or whatever) of audio into a "keeper" file that doesn't get wiped.-- lurch, Sep 15 2002 Cell phone audio memory http://www.halfbake...ne_20audio_20memorySimilar idea, within the context of a cellular phone. [bristolz, Sep 15 2002, last modified Oct 05 2004] Instant Replay http://www.halfbake...ea/Instant_20replaySame idea, only for more than just audio. [egnor, Sep 16 2002, last modified Oct 05 2004] Record Your Life http://www.halfbake...ecord_20Your_20Lifelater idea by [philthechill] that extends this concept (WTAGIPBAN) [krelnik, Oct 04 2004, last modified Oct 05 2004] Baked as an Android app https://play.google...=com.aktarer.myears [notexactly, Nov 14 2015] Baked as a DIY electronic device http://hackaday.io/project/3602 [notexactly, Nov 14 2015] Sorry about the inadvertent use of pre-baked product name, [Rods]. I'm not claiming to be above such things, but that one didn't occur to me.
--Ok, got the link. Ouch! I'm afraid the fact that I don't watch TV may bite me severely here!-- lurch, Sep 15 2002 This is like Tivo for Real life...-- whoaNow, Apr 28 2003 I like this very much. It is like the short term memory that I never had. But what if someone tells you another good joke while you are fooling around with the first one? So, (trying to be helpful) it should record continuously, and there should be a button for committing the first minute to long term memory while the tape continues to record. Humm, rereading this...that seems to be the idea to begin with...-- pluterday, Apr 28 2003 Future product's name: HUH?® and HUH?Plus® with extra memory.-- Cedar Park, Apr 29 2003 It should learn what you want to keep, Tivo-like, so that after a while, it automatically records the most interesting and erudite of your acquaintances, and also the bizarrely hypnotic non-sequiturs of that weird bloke in the office who likes radiators.-- friendlyfire, Apr 29 2003 If everone had this then "I" could'nt lie anymore. No good.-- The Tick, May 31 2003 I need this for remembering peoples names I just met. It needs to trap the last hour or two, with live scanning ability (all totally feasable with current digital recording tech.) I have a mind like a steel sieve, and generally forget names almost instantly. I want this to have a cordless ear bud I can wear all the time, with a jog shuttle control in my hand, to scan through the recent recordings, so I can review peoples names while I'm at a social function or for remembering any other stuff I just heard, but wasn't paying close enough attention to to catch (band/book/event names from the radio, phone numbers, addresses, websites, the like).-- oxen crossing, Feb 05 2004 random, halfbakery
