Wardrobe Redundancy Measures

A camera in your home allows you to pose and snap a shot of your outfit as you leave for the day. This photo is uploaded to your I-Phone or other portable device*. When you get up in the morning, roll through the photos to see what you have worn recently. Avoid these articles of clothing.

*Photos can be timed with a shelf-life based on your needs, self-deleting in one to three weeks.

Now I'm more confused than ever [normzone, Aug 13 2007]

Great idea.

This could also be used if you wanted to wear the same outfit as the previous day: You can put it on and see how crushed/dirty it has become...
-- Jinbish, Aug 09 2007

"please note you have worn those blue jeans for the last 2 weeks and they have exceeded there window and must be washed"
-- jhomrighaus, Aug 09 2007

After I wear something it goes in the hamper until the magic laundry genie cleans it, folds it, and returns it to my drawers.
-- Galbinus_Caeli, Aug 09 2007

'eyes per item' is a good measurment except that this level varies according to flashiness. for instance a classic pair of black slacks are less noticeable than the peacock green shirt you wore it with last tuesday. i'd be fine with wearing the pants a week later, but not necessarily the shirt. so could we weight the 'eyes per item' according to memorability?

i'm sorry it was unclear, [Galbinus_Caeli], this isn't about dirty clothes, it's about oft-repeated clothes and forgetting you've worn them recently. (*sigh* [Galbinus_Caeli] thinks i'm a grit.)
-- k_sra, Aug 09 2007

Sorry [k_sra], it's my fault. Being the tinker that I am, I could see the use in repeating outfits, rather than avoiding the faux pas.
-- Jinbish, Aug 09 2007

No, [Galbinus_Caeli] is a smart ass who probably deserves a smack.

He is also one of those men who would probably wear coveralls with his name embroidered on the breast pocket every day if his wife did not keep him in line.
-- Galbinus_Caeli, Aug 09 2007

well, i won't argue, [Galbinus_C] and [Jinbish], that this is a vanity item. it certainly is. but if you have a wife (or would like to someday have one) this can still save your bacon. really, i don't expect the coverall-wearing types to be too interested. mostly for the scatter-brained, but expected to look fashionable at work set, like myself.

why is "rolling" so '90's? I-phone let's you "roll" through pictures... oh, right, because it could do so much more, telling you what you *should* wear, etc. i thought of that, i really did, [bigsleep], but there's something to the whole data-entering-of-every-single- piece-of-clothing-you-own part of it that i just can't bring myself to want...
-- k_sra, Aug 09 2007

Terrible idea for nudists. Would work fine for everyone else. [+]
-- shapu, Aug 09 2007

HA! I love that this idea has spawned such terms as "fashion database" and "eyes per item." good ol' HB.
-- k_sra, Aug 09 2007

Get a hangercus. (See link)
-- phundug, Aug 09 2007

Hah! And it leads to a [bristolz] illo. Love it.

[k_sra], does he think you are a grit or a git?
-- normzone, Aug 09 2007

[phundug], thanks for the swim down memory lane. again, not really about laundry, so much as forgetting which outfit you wore last week for casual Friday and trying to avoid wearing it again.

[norm], i can't be a git, i'm a girl.
-- k_sra, Aug 09 2007

I understand.

I wonder if other people really notice that I wore today's outfit two days ago, when I myself can't remember.
-- phundug, Aug 09 2007

I had a geometry teacher in High School by whom you could determine the day of the week by obvserving the wig she was wearing. On Fridays she wore no wig, and her hairdo was fine - the wigs were a fashion choice. Now, wigs have never been in, not when I was in HS, and not now. But she didn't care. On Monday it was the long brown hair. On Tuesday it was a blond bob. And so forth.

Why do I relate this story here? I have no idea, but this idea reminded me of it - she did not need such a device.

+ for you, because it's a wonderful idea, even though I don't need it any more than she did; but for me, it's because I just wear the same outfit for weeks until I can hear crackling as I walk. I work from home.
-- globaltourniquet, Aug 09 2007

//I wonder if other people really notice that I wore today's outfit two days ago, when I myself can't remember.//

this question haunts me as well. if a wardrobe falls in the woods, does anybody hear it?
-- k_sra, Aug 09 2007

[k_sra], as a member of your fan club, I am aware of your girlness.

But I just came from looking at definitions, and I think you must mean git. I saw no sexual exclusivity in the definition.

I'm pretty sure you're not a grit either.

But I've been wrong before.
-- normzone, Aug 09 2007

-- nomadic_wonderer, Aug 09 2007

Like [galbinus] I was thinking the inverse of this idea, but I was thinking it would weed out the clothes you never wore and encourage you to sell them on ebay.
-- wagster, Aug 09 2007

Mine would look at my wardrobe and throw up it's hands in disgust.

"You're wearing your running shoes, your western jeans, and your corporate logo polo shirt. I give up".
-- normzone, Aug 09 2007

More than 4 years between the anno'ed birth of an idea and it's halfbaking? That's got to be some sort of record.
(And I thought I was a chronic procrastinator...)
-- neutrinos_shadow, Aug 10 2007

Does this include underwear?
-- skinflaps, Aug 10 2007

[neutrinos], i don't follow. what anno are we talking about here?

[skinflaps], if it does include underwear, then you are doing it wrong.

[norm], i thought git was a british insult geared toward the male gender...

(thanks, [nomad], how ya been?)
-- k_sra, Aug 10 2007

On the linked 'Hangercus' idea, you mentioned exactly this concept in an annotation, 4 years ago.
(Sorry if there was any confusion - I never was any good at explaining myself...)
-- neutrinos_shadow, Aug 12 2007

I'm supposed to care if I keep wearing the same clothes?
-- Voice, Aug 13 2007

[neutrinos], oh! (recognition dawns)

[Voice], no, but the rest of us might.
-- k_sra, Aug 13 2007

To avoid this problem I wear the same clothes every day.
-- nuclear hobo, Aug 13 2007

^BEEP^ ^You are wearing the same Ramones t-shirt that you have worn every thursday since 1985, It has not been washed since June. You are also wearing the brown slacks that you pulled from the dumpster at 33rd and 3rd after leaving your trousers at that girl's flat when her husband came home in 1992. Note that today IS half off day at the thrift store. Maybe you should empty that change jar and head on down.^ ^BEEP^
-- Galbinus_Caeli, Aug 13 2007

My Goodness, Sir! That outfit needs ironing. Oh. Sorry Sir. Please get dressed.
-- Karnuvap, Aug 13 2007

<wonders why everyone is picking on [Beep]>
-- k_sra, Aug 13 2007

Ok - I'm female, but I confess not a particularly "girly" one.

This idea that one should avoid particular articles of clothing because they were worn recently is ... impossible for me to wrap my mind around.

This seems quite impractical. Wouldn't it make more sense to pick clothes to buy for maximum reusability? I try to minimize the number of items to choose from, to eliminate thought as much as possible from the dressing process.
-- drememynd, Aug 13 2007

What we really need is something like a fashion dishwasher. That not only washes your clothes, but also re-dyes them into more fashionable colours overnight. Perhaps according to the next day's weather forecast in your local area.

Still trying to find something that off-sets the usual slate grey skies of a Scottish summer...

[k_sra] -

From Wikipedia:

"Git is a relatively mild British slang term, used to denote a silly, incompetent, stupid, annoying, childish or senile elderly person. It is usually used as an insult, more severe than twit but less severe than a true profanity like wanker or arsehole, and may often be used affectionately between friends. In some southern U.S. states, it is a shortened form of midget, used to denote a short person."
