Wales is in Wales   (+6, -3)  [vote for, against]
Members of the royal family should live according to their title

The Prince Of Wales should live in Wales, the Duke of York should live in York, NOT KENYA!. The Earl of Wessex should live somewhere in Wessex. Even my local member of the Royal Family live in his Dukedom.

[The only problem would be the Duke of Edinburgh...]

Sir Frank Stenton's 'Anglo-Saxon England' http://www.amazon.c...002-8188052-7612023
The definitive history of the period. If you really want to know about the Saxon kingdoms, Mercia, Jorvik and the difference between Men of Kent and Kentish Men, then this is the book for you. [DrBob, Apr 20 2001]

It would be an insult to my Clan if the Prince of Wales did just that. His Ancestral lineage includes of course, the first of his inbred clan to be in the position of authority over all of the continent. That first ruler beheaded my head of my Ancestral Clan in order to do so. My Ancestral family went to Wales from that point on. The way I figure it, they owe me back rent.

The title or Earl of Wessex was given to Prince Andrew on his marriage. Wessex does not *officially* exsist, it hasn't done since the Vikings, but it roughly encompases Hampshire, Dorset, Wiltshire, Somerset, Devon and Cornwall.

[Wessex: West Saxon, the Saxons eventually ruled the whole country]

Nossex was then known as Viking territory.

[Anglo-Saxons once ruled as far north as Lothian]

Yeah, ravenswood, a Home of Convenience. Because George Dubya Bush and Dick Cheney both really live in Texas, and there is a prohibition against both Pres and VPres coming from the same state, Cheney had to buy a house elsewhere and pretend he lived there. At least that's my understanding.
-- Dog Ed, Apr 21 2001

Perhaps we should have stuck to our guns (not litereally) after the Civil War instead of going down the road of Reformation. Even the historic divide in Parliament dates back to the apeasement of both Royalist and Parliamentarians.
-- griffin, Apr 21 2001

The Prince of Wales would have a problem as he is also Duke of Cornwall, Duke of Rothesay, Baron Renfrew and Lord of the Isles. But then he could always have lots of houses. Incidentally, griffin, I think you mean 'restoration', not 'reformation' (that was Henry VIII and the monasteries).

I'm quite happy for members of the royal family to live abroad. But why do they have to keep coming back?
-- DrBob, Apr 23 2001

Yes and the queen is Duke of Normandy so we could get rid of her to the frogs.

[ sctld ] - you've got the wrong brat - Wessex is Eddie, Andy is York.
-- Gordon Comstock, Apr 23 2001

ravenswood: try "firefighters", the pc, gender-neutral term.
-- mihali, Apr 23 2001

Gordon, ll members of the royal family look the same anyway...

[The queen is 75, most people her age are retired or dead!]
-- [ sctld ], Apr 23 2001

Your right, of course, Peter. War with the French is another good reason for sending the royals abroad. Well spotted.
-- DrBob, Apr 23 2001

I think Whales should live in Wales. It would be much more of a tourist attraction.
-- Op, Apr 23 2001

I think fish are animals.
-- redpony, Apr 24 2001

A whale is NOT a fish. It's an insect.
-- Gordon Comstock, Apr 25 2001

Don't dis Cheney...

First of all, the law regarding VP and Prez is outdated to the days of the colonies. The reason the law was first introduced, was because of the lack of rapid communication. If there were some radical viewpoints from South Carolina (for example), the folks in Vermont may not have known about it by election day... it comes from the same reasoning that gives us the electoral college (also BS.)

Secondly, Cheney was well established in Wyoming. He was a senator there for many, many years, and I think anyone would be hard pressed to say that Wyoming was not his home. Perhaps he didn't live there for the year or two leading up to the election, but danget if he didn't make $36 million in taxable income, as viewed on thesmokinggun.com.
-- pnewp, Apr 25 2001

I dunno, pnewp. Dick Cheney spelled backwards is pronounced Kid Yenech. That can't be a coincidence.
-- Dog Ed, Apr 25 2001

Yes I do Angel, study as I may dyslexsia rules here but I am on top of it KO

-- edski, Apr 25 2001

how did we get from British royalty to Dick Cheney?

Anyway, if the royals have to live in the place they get their title, the nobles should have to as well.
-- arghblah, Jan 03 2002

Moving Leeds Castle out of Kent would also be an idea.
-- pottedstu, Jan 04 2002

On a similar note, but not worth posting as an idea in its own right, is the notion that U.S. baseball teams (or, for that matter, any professional sports teams) should be comprised of players from their respective local areas, an idea that's occurred to me from time to time. I don't really think it's workable, but it *seems* right.
-- snarfyguy, Jan 04 2002

Snarfyguy's idea is great, but since no sports team will go for it (cos it would leave them all destitute), maybe the royals should take a leaf out of their book and be able to put family members on the transfer list. As I don't know many overseas royal families and can't be arsed looking them up I'm going to have to experiment with regal personages. I know some are dead or imaginary but I'm just testing the theory - maybe someone could fill in some real ones. Here's the dream team. The Queen - Cleopatra The Duke of Edinburgh - King Canute Prince Charles - Prince Valiant Prince Andrew - Bilbo Baggins Princess Anne - The Sensitive Princess from The Princess and the Pea Prince Edward - TAFKA Prince The Queen Mum - Thora Hird Princess Margaret - Sean Mcgowan

& I thought all the royal family owned at least one castle/palace/mansion in the place indicated by their titles.
