Colored salt to aid in determining how much salt is being applied

Salt should have a color other than clear or white. This way, one could immediately see how much salt is being applied to the food. This would be especially handy used in shakers that seem to "gush" salt at a high rate.

I'm just assuming that this is edible. Better ask before ordering, or make your own. [jutta, May 19 2006]

good idea, but baked ! Sorry Bruce - happens to us all

xenzag, I would have called that a link to a similar discussion elsewhere, not a proof that it's "baked". (It is baked - if you cannot muster the strength to mix salt with food coloring yourself, your local witchcraft supply store can supply you with small packets of overpriced colored salts. But that's not widely known.)

[normzone] adds to his no-doubt-inaccurate mental picture of [Jutta] the image of her sprinkling salt and eye of newt on a modded chassis by the full of the moon.

even coloured salt would have been absorbed during the cooking process and rendered invisible.

I saw coloured salt about 10 years ago on some American show called something like "I Can't Believe I Didn't Think Of That". It was well-received, as far as I recall.
