Pops up as a 5 second timer in the right upper corner of your screen counting down to when that obnoxious audio file is going to play while you're surfing the web.
Pop up blockers don't necessarily stop videos that are set to automatically start playing and blaring out their accompanying soundtrack when you navigate to the page. Sometimes the video is lower on the page than where you're viewing so you don't expect it.
This warns you and gives you time to mute it and then see if it's something you want to hear.
It could also be set to off asking you if you want to hear it. "Audio Track Requesting Play: Allow/Don't Allow"-- doctorremulac3, Aug 12 2014 You could have it play this. https://www.youtube...watch?v=aq58kzqRfi8The siren warns that an audio commercial is about to play. I've yet to come across a MIDI file embedded in a webpage that did anything I enjoyed, so that's turned off as well.-- FlyingToaster, Aug 12 2014 But what if you don't notice the timer? Obviously it needs an auditory warning too.-- DIYMatt, Aug 12 2014 I'm thinking a siren or klaxon sound.-- doctorremulac3, Aug 12 2014 If this could prevent accidentally listening to The Archers, then [+].-- 8th of 7, Aug 12 2014 Ideally you might be able to set it for the kind of stuff you want turned off. For instance, I might have it turn off modern dance beat music, but as I've said many times, anything with bagpipes is great, especially when it comes blasting out of my speakers unexpectedly.
However those with contrary taste might have: "WARNING: BAGPIPE MUSIC IN 10-9-8..."-- doctorremulac3, Aug 12 2014 //...like a spider sitting on a tower waiting to stiffen its legs with a painful drone.//
Poetic.
You know, it wouldn't be too hard to create bagpipe canceling headphones that could be worn throughout the day. You'd have a 5 second time delay of all sound coming in which would take some time to adjust to, but it would allow any unexpected bagpipe music to be sensed by the circuitry in time for the headphones to be shut down.
I smell an idea.-- doctorremulac3, Aug 12 2014 This should be part of the next version of all operating systems.-- pashute, Aug 14 2014 The more I think about this the more I like it. I'd leave it on all the time myself.
You could have a little line of bars lighting up from left to right leading to a green "Mute" icon like a fuse. The bars start lighting up and you've got whatever amount of time you've set it for to click mute or just let it go to hear whatever's coming.
