Losing a glove is really annoying .....
This is primarily intended for motorcycle gloves (which are expensive) but could be applied to any glove.
Each glove continns a Seebeck-effect thermovoltaic unit on the back. This charges a lithium-ion cell which in turn powers a small transmitter-receiver unit. The tramitter emits a coded signal which is detected by the receiver in the other glove and vice versa; the gloves are "paired" with one anohter (this is not a pun). Bluetooth could be used.
If the gloves are separated by more than a few metres for more than ten seconds, the signal drop s out and both gloves start to bleep. The one you still have tells you that you have droped the other; and the bleeping of the "lost" glove allows you to find it quickly.
On first putting on the gloves, the system starts to charge up; since gloves are worn in cold wather there will be a good temeprature differential between the wearer's hand and ambient.
There is a "mute" button on each glove for when you stop riding and put them away.
<later> The thermovoltaic system could be augmented by a photovoltaic to make best use of opportunistic energy sources.-- 8th of 7, Dec 07 2007 mittens on a string http://www.squidoo....mittens-on-a-stringclip on gloves instead [popbottle, Feb 14 2014] Just don't lose both. [+]-- 37PiecesOf Flair, Dec 07 2007 Funny as, just when you home in on the "lost" glove, it stops beeping (because the other is near. So you set the first one down to find the second, then go back for the first...-- phoenix, Dec 07 2007 No... once the beeping starts, you have to press the reset button to stop it ....
<drops glove> . . . <wanders off> . . BEEP BEEP BEEEP BEEP BEE <presses mute button> . beep beep beep . <approches lost glove> . BEEP BEEP BEEEP <picks up other glove and presses reset> .
Job done.-- 8th of 7, Dec 07 2007 When I was a child, my parents ensured that my gloves were linked by some mysterious form of quantum entanglement. I believe it relied on string theory.-- MaxwellBuchanan, Dec 07 2007 <Groan>
If I give you a pound for a cup ot tea, will you go and bother someone else ? Please ?-- 8th of 7, Dec 07 2007 Have you seen the price of Earl Grey these days? And decent china? Not to mention butlering overheads and scullery maids. A pound???-- MaxwellBuchanan, Dec 07 2007 Will you have your lukewarm, greyish Tetley-and-UHT-skim-milk in this nice polystyrene cup, or do you just want to wear it ?-- 8th of 7, Dec 08 2007 ridiculously complex solution to a simple problem = (+)-- xenzag, Dec 08 2007 This would be great for telling you that you are riding two bikes at once.
In opposite directions.-- Ling, Dec 08 2007 if only you could develop a special pair of "unloseable" underpants for britney spears. (+)-- pyggy potamus, Dec 08 2007 //What if you only have one arm?// Easy, sew one glove to the back of the other and avoid all alarms.-- vincevincevince, Dec 08 2007 I like it, and it makes me miss a pair of down filled leather gloves I used to have when I rode. It is a bit complex, though.-- MisterQED, Dec 08 2007 I'll take two pair, please.-- normzone, Feb 13 2014 If you're going to incorporate batteries, why not simply have the gloves try to reunite when they're separated, by walking on the fingertips.-- FlyingToaster, Feb 13 2014 [+]-- Voice, Feb 13 2014 random, halfbakery
