Ultimate Roadtrip   (0)  [vote for, against]
30 min. segment from 12+ hrs. of driving

Make 30 min. shows from 20+ hours of road trip driving across america with a selected party in the car. Now, the show will consist primarily of discourse, so it will be the job of the producers to find the more prolific minds, visionaries, people with big ideas. Inevitably, the show would be a great political platform. Imagine bush and kerry on a road trip episode. The medium results in more honest discourse than found in most situations, and that would be the specialty. The show would never be at the top of the charts, not enough action, but it would have potential into settling into a more intellectual niche, almost becoming a sort of peer to peer news segment, an interview without an interviewer, true to life discourse.

Hober -- Thinking Radio http://hober.com/
Mild, light, eclectic, hick ... something for everyone. [dpsyplc, Oct 17 2004]

"Dinner for Five" (on IFC, a US cable channel) http://www.dinnerforfive.com/
Similar idea, but it is set in a restaurant instead of a car. [krelnik, Oct 17 2004]

Isn't this aired on MTV and called Road Rules? The show wasn't getting high enough ratings because there wasn't enough action. Then, they incorporated competition, and sex and all of a sudden a star was born.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is baked.

Hits me as appropriate for those slightly out-of-focus scenes of folks just being themselves that seem to make the airwaves during campaigns and funerals. Go well with light folk guitar / dobro. Actually, I have a link for the soundtrack.

Good idea. I just happen to doubt that Bush would be so idiot to waste his time on a road-trip reality show.

(wait, he's really an idiot so... maybe he would).

Ah, I see, [daseva]. So it would be like a "My Dinner with Andre" except a TV Series and on the road . . . [neutral] now changed to [+]
We don't, however, need the television-network-preference prejudice. I want my MTV. Money for nothing, and your chicks for free. That ain't working. That's the way you do it. Et cetera, thank you very much.

I don't remember that last line from the song.

Would this run on Fox?
-- bristolz, Jun 09 2004

No, that wasn't it.
-- angel, Jun 09 2004

Heh. The last line is “Money for nothin' and chicks for free” but I was tawkin about the Fox network. Bush on Fox.

If you wanna attract attention you gotta choose your methods. See [link].

I think it would work better if the people on the road trip didn't know what was going on and secret cameras were attached all over the car.

one of the UK TV stations did something that might be similar to your idea in that they took a celebrity and an estranged relative and had them roadtrip across the states as a form of therapy, well that's how it looked. The episode i saw was Anne Robinson and daughter.

//The medium results in more honest discourse than found in most situations, and that would be the specialty.//

"ahmm, George, i think we're out of coke" ... ... ... "George, should i tell the driver to turn round?" .... .... .... "ZzzzZZz zzzZzZZZz zZZzZZz ZzZzZzzzZ ZzZzzzZz"

kerry thinks to himself :"why isn't a luxury prostitute here with me instead of this hibernating pile of meat?"..."oh, wait, i'm on live TV, i must act properly and think straight"..."this is boring.. what kind of a looser watches this?"
