Where you'd put a decorative fountain, this feature would be more like a ballet of various waves crashing into each other. Picture watching ocean waves concentrate in a rocky cove blasting against each other from various angles causing the water to dance and bounce about in never ending patterns.
This would be achieved by filling various tanks with water positioned above the pond, behind a wall for instance, that are opened to let the water into the pond in various sequences.
So say you have 6 tanks. Each tank has various outlets into the tank from various angles. We'll do one simple feature, the opposing wave.
Tank 1 on the far left, and tank 3 on the far right have valves that face each other. These would be more sluice gates than valves because opening them would release all the water at once creating a big wave.
When the waves meet in the middle of the pond, they combine their momentum and create a massive water tower that rises up 20 feet before splashing back down.
That would be a simple combination but with enough water inlets arranged around the perimeter endless "water dances" could be created.-- doctorremulac3, May 09 2021 Inspired by this. https://www.youtube...watch?v=iWKFPTgkpXoThe tanks would be a cheap, low tech way to do stuff like this. [doctorremulac3, May 09 2021] Hokusai's Wave https://en.wikipedi...ai_19th_century.jpg [hippo, May 09 2021] Similar to this Antichirp-wave_20fleet-sinkerBut smaller. [neutrinos_shadow, May 10 2021] I'd like this as a normally peaceful pond in a park that has scarcely a ripple on the surface except for once an hour, on the hour, an impressive Hokusai-style wave rears up from the surface.-- hippo, May 09 2021 A mercury version of that single inverted drop would be quite a spectacle.-- xenzag, May 09 2021 Makes me think how swimming with a current/wave from behind you is really smoovy because you go faster with less effort; could soliton waves at water parks behind people push them smoovily along but travel much further in the pool because they are solitons?
Likewise body surfing waterpark pools could use water soliton waves to travel further.-- beanangel, May 09 2021 What [hippo] said. [+]-- pertinax, May 10 2021 The Slo-Mo Guys (who have upped their game since I first saw them a loooong time ago) wave pool experiment is basically proof of the linked "Antichirp-wave" idea.-- neutrinos_shadow, May 10 2021 That Slo-mo video has some seriously beautiful stills.
Add a living green tinge and fix C02 at the same time. Extra filtering will be needed.-- wjt, May 15 2021 random, halfbakery
