Reduce the risk of time travel

Time Travel Made Easy

Here is what I was thinking, how ever you are suppose to time travel it is going to be dangerous. I have solved that.

Say it is 10:00 AM ----- Say to your self I am going to go to 1889 for 2 hours then I am going to go to today’s date at 10:02 AM.

At 10:02 AM ---- you (future, with a bump on your head) ) appear next to your self (present) (with a bump on your head) and say “Hi I am fine but, watch your head on the landing”

At 10:05 AM -----you (present) time travel to 1889 for 2 hours, then to go to today’s date at 10:02 AM.

If this works you could never die when time traveling. You just wouldn’t go if you didn’t appear and give the “ok:”.

Now all you have to do is figure out how to time travel.

No, no, no, don't come back and give yourself advice. You'll obviously now know to duck your head, which will cause you to lose your balance and break your neck.

lurch hit the nail on the head (so to speak).

The models of time travel that fit imburton's description can be divided into two groups. One in which you have the ability to change your own timeline and the other in which have no free will, all your actions being predestined.

In the first model, the 'you' who informs you about the bump on the head is not the same you who goes back with that thought in mind. If you can change your own timeline then the fact that an alternate 'you' returned in no way guarantees your own safety.

In the second model, you will always be warned about a bump on the head and you will always receive a bump on the head. Who started this little loop in time lies outside our Universe and is therefore a mystery.

1stly Its all conjecture since you cant go 'back' in time anyway,

You can of course go forward in time (or make time go slower for yourself compared to everyone else) by simply moving in any direction, the faster you move the slower time goes (time dilation) until you reach the speed of light which requires near infinite energy.

besides If time travel was possible, surley some do-gooder would have stopped world war 2 happening by now.

LUNARTICK: //Its all conjecture since you cant go 'back' in time anyway.//
There's a Mr Hawking outside. He would like a brief word with you.

//surley some do-gooder would have stopped world war 2 happening by now//

He did. It originally occurred from 1928-1932.

There is an alternate reality in which WW2 never happened.
Of course every time I am there, they make me pin a Star of David to my shirt.

[2 Fries]You've been reading Stephen Fry again.
-- Gordon Comstock, Apr 04 2003

Never heard of him, but then I've only been in this reality for a short period of time.

Only World War 2? What about the Crusades, The "Crucifiction " (Insert appropriate significant religion specific event) etc . . .

Ok then, Exactly how is it possible to go back in time? you cannot travel faster than light? :. so if you went down a 'worm hole' that lead to a distant [primitve] galaxy for example, when you got there it would no longer be primitive because it isnt primative [at this moment in time] it just looks like it is because the light has taken so long to reach us.

Just because we can see distant primative objects in space doesnt mean they exist any more they are long gone, we are just seeing a mirage, like an old photograph.

Other dimensions may or may not exist, until we have any evidence (other than a few numbers) we cannot assume they exist. otherwise why not say there is a god?

Were you time travelling when you were writing that one?

Read a rather wierd short story sometime ago that looked at the crucifiction and time travel, the twist was that all the people who shouted for barabus where the people who had travelled back in time.

I have also seen the position that time is self healing i.e important events will happen only the person who did it changes.
