Seriously, can anyone even for a second claim that those without an iPhone have as much opportunity as those with? Even for a second?
You want evidence? Can't find a parking spot as efficiently. Or a date. Or a restaurant. Well, maybe you can find the road a bit better with a different phone. But short of that, you are screwed.
And now they have 137B in cash?!?! While the rest of us are struggling? Wtf with that?
I would say, at a minimum, the government should guarantee everyone an iPhone, until the fuckers start building it here, or perhaps just take that money, which would let us postpone the debt ceiling for like 6 to nine months with a special iTax. Cause we're a freaking team, and not just a bunch of "i"s.
How do you like them apples?-- theircompetitor, Jan 24 2013 Apple's cash http://venturebeat....eaches-137-billion/ [theircompetitor, Jan 24 2013] An individual mandate for iPhones? Do I have to pay for it myself? Will there be mobile rates subsidy, and means-testing to see if I qualify? If I don't buy one will I be charged a tax penalty?-- tatterdemalion, Jan 24 2013 One of the goals of these companies is to make us dependent of their gadgets. I can live happy without a smartphone, even though I have one. For example, I can do a long car trip without a GPS, but never without a good map. Anyway, if your idea grows, I'll vote for Android.-- piluso, Jan 24 2013 When can I have my soapbox back, [tc]?-- UnaBubba, Jan 24 2013 [marked-for-deletion] rant-- hippo, Jan 24 2013 ^^ What [hippo] said. No idea.-- theleopard, Jan 24 2013 Where've you bin?-- xenzag, Jan 24 2013 [21 Quest], you bring up an intriguing point, how does one pluralise an acronym whose noun makes up the first letter? Certainly not POS's, which to me reads "Piece Of Shit's". My inclination is to go with PsOS. That read better?-- theleopard, Jan 24 2013 this idea has absolutely nothing to do with a specific phone or company, [21quest], other than as a nod to their phenomenal success, which apparently is only possible because of Medicare and Social Security (someone tell that to Carnegie and Vanderbilt), and the opportunistic "I" in the name. There is no "i" in Google just doesn't work.
I guess I'd assumed more people also check the category, and more people would say wait a second tc, why is this post unlike every other. Maybe I needed an Onion link or something :) I promise this would be the first and last idea from me titled "there is no I in..."
[bigsleep] is getting into the spirit. 1.7M per every Apple employee. Becoming almost natural to say why do they need all that money. Scary. How long before our (truly our, collective) appetite finds that unacceptable.
Rant, to be sure. Oh well, there's always hope that change fails.-- theircompetitor, Jan 24 2013 So, a company produces a device that lots of people want, and thereby makes a huge amount of money. This is wrong because?
As for the question of where it's built - this is a small part of a much bigger picture. There is an inevitable, glacial levelling of the world economy which means that work is done wherever it's cheapest. The current "economic crisis" is no such thing - it's just another click of the ratchet on the way downhill, and it's only going to get worse. Western economies will get poorer; other economies will get richer, albeit slower than the western economies get poorer.
Seriously, if someone in Malaysia can assemble iPhones for a quarter of the price of assembling in the US, where do you expect them to be assembled?-- MaxwellBuchanan, Jan 24 2013 // Tech products are a huge waste of human energy // I really agree.
// This is wrong because? // because it's never enough ?-- piluso, Jan 24 2013 More ranting about politics. Zzzz...-- RayfordSteele, Jan 24 2013 sorry, the intend was surely not to bore you Ray. Not sure how to react anymore, the feeling of existential threat is probably just a midlife crisis, I know.
piluso, hope you don't ever need a pace maker.-- theircompetitor, Jan 24 2013 I'm going to start labeling the Republican party as the Paranoia Party.
I guess we should all go back to the time when people lived to about age 40.-- RayfordSteele, Jan 24 2013 // hope you don't ever need a pace maker // Me too ! Please take my annotations in this context of "I" products, that generation after generation (every year) seems to never fill the increasing needs of millions. And yes, I should read the category first.-- piluso, Jan 24 2013 ban all technological products. Issue everyone with a leaf, a stick and a stone.-- pocmloc, Jan 24 2013 and a bucket.-- FlyingToaster, Jan 24 2013 And a hat. A nice hat with a wide brim and a pointy top. You can do a lot with a hat like that.-- MaxwellBuchanan, Jan 24 2013 Sure you can. Line it with tinfoil, for instance.-- UnaBubba, Jan 24 2013 //how does one pluralise an acronym whose noun makes up the first letter?//
I can say that I've generally seen Attorneys General written as AGs. I think it's generally acceptable to put the s on the end of the acronym, and let the expander put it where it should be.-- MechE, Jan 25 2013 In the case of p.o.s., the plural would be pp.o.s.-- ytk, Jan 25 2013 random, halfbakery
