It would be cool if there was a swimming pool where you would never sink.Like the dead sea ,with extra salty water. It would be a great way to relax, and good for learner swimmers so they never go under.-- gizmo, Oct 28 2003 non-drowning swimming pool http://www.halfbake...g_20Swimming_20Poolan idea by [paintbynumbers] [lintkeeper2, Oct 04 2004] Red Sea Salt http://www.thehidde...50_gal_salt_mix.htmFor 50 gallon and 150 gallon swimming pools (or buy more if you're larger than a guppie). [Worldgineer, Oct 04 2004] is the water red?-- po, Oct 28 2003 This would be easy enough to bake - just add salt. Though perhaps you should start smaller - the dead wading pool, or the dead bathtub. (changed from red to dead after [waug]'s forehead-slapping comment)-- Worldgineer, Oct 28 2003 Probably not po, probably not.-- gizmo, Oct 28 2003 I've often wondered why this has never been done. Good thinking, giz!-- lostdog, Oct 28 2003 Filling it with salt is the easy part, what we need is a halfbaked way to simulate Moses parting the waters.-- krelnik, Oct 28 2003 Would it work with custard?-- The Kat, Oct 28 2003 I think you mean the Dead Sea, not the Red Sea.-- waugsqueke, Oct 28 2003 yeah but the dead swimming pool doesn't sound as nice.-- po, Oct 28 2003 I stand corected but po is right red sounds better than dead so the name stays-- gizmo, Oct 28 2003 Or you could go with the "Great Salt Swimming Pool" for the USA version.-- krelnik, Oct 28 2003 But then it sounds like Red Tide, which is not exactly what you want either.-- DrCurry, Oct 28 2003 Naming suggestion: The happy floaty salty swimmy pool. Couldn't we achieve the non-drowning thing by filling the pool with jello?-- Canuck, Oct 29 2003 (no, [The Kat] already covered that way up near the top. Besides, I much prefer jello to custard. I mean custard is just so, umm, custardy. Or is that custardly?)-- Canuck, Oct 29 2003 Don't swimming pools go red if you pee in them?
Don't like the idea of that or of dead swimming pools-- scubadooper, Oct 29 2003 You should see a doctor about that.-- Worldgineer, Oct 29 2003 Happy 2nd, [gizmo]. Glad you're around.
<floats on dead sea pool as body dehydrates>-- k_sra, Oct 29 2003 Can I ask a question? In the US, is jello the wobbly, transparent desert or is it fruit preserve to be spread on sandwiches? Jello=wobbly desert, Jelly= jam/conserve? Is that right. If so, what's with that jello salad I've heard of? Is it really made with a wobbly, transparent desert and lettuce or what?-- squeak, Oct 30 2003 The Jello/Jelly thing was done in the Simpsons.-- suctionpad, Oct 30 2003 Well I didn't see either. Answer?-- squeak, Oct 30 2003 do you look at links, ms squeak?-- po, Oct 30 2003 [squeak], our Jell-O (brand name) is the jiggly, stand on it's own gelatin composite dessert. Jell-O salad involves some unwilling tangerine slices, a handful of crushed nuts, a cup or so of whipped cream and some wilted iceberg underneath. My mother used to serve it with a dollop of mayonnaise for which I never forgave her...-- k_sra, Oct 30 2003 k_sra, I'd like to introduce you to a trifle I made earlier. (no mayonnaise)-- po, Oct 30 2003 [po] Sorry. I didn't see that. Now it has all become clear. <note to self> Must try harder.
[K_sra] erk. Who in the hell invented that? Those poor, poor, innocent tangerines.-- squeak, Oct 30 2003 Sounds good, [po]. I miss real trifle... *sniff*-- k_sra, Oct 30 2003 The supersalt pool might be a valuable treatment for people who were overloaded with fluid because of kidney or heart trouble. After floating in the pool, mass action would tend to draw fluid from them, in effect mildly pickling them. They would emerge dryer and spryer.-- bungston, Oct 30 2003 ravenswood, do you have traffic marmalades?-- po, Oct 30 2003 We're smothered in 'em!-- k_sra, Oct 30 2003 Don't open your eyes underwater.
Jello salad: Wobbly, transparent stuff, often with whipped cream, mandarin oranges, marshmallows, and nuts.-- RayfordSteele, Oct 30 2003 Is this a desert or part of the main meal?
*Real* trifle doesn't have jelly in it (oh how common). It has sherry. Will look for definitive recipe.
Too many. Google for "Delia Smith Sherry Trifle".
But basically, starting at the bottom: sponges soaked in sherry (perhaps spread with jam), soft fruit, custard, chopped nuts.-- squeak, Oct 31 2003 of course there is jelly in it. you got a vacuum between sponge and custard?-- po, Oct 31 2003 What would happen if you filled a swimming pool with instant mashed potatoes?-- tchaikovsky, Oct 31 2003 There would be a run on butter.-- k_sra, Oct 31 2003 [tcha], I'd go with a hot tub - who wants cold mashed potatos?-- Worldgineer, Oct 31 2003 what would happen if you filled a swimming pool full of fag ash.-- gizmo, Oct 31 2003 Standard or olympic?-- Worldgineer, Oct 31 2003 The type that drops of the end of saddams cubans-- gizmo, Nov 01 2003 It would burn a fifty foot hole in the ground.-- atomic point dexter, Nov 01 2003 Excellent idea. I had a similar one for a "Real Water Bed" where the water was warmed and super supportive as you suggest. It would be great for people with burns and those with back problems. A floating material could be on top of the water if that helped. I just haven't found a good way to keep the head above water while asleep. Maybe this is 1/4 baked. I wish I could vote twice for your idea, as I had forgotten mine. : -)-- NotSoQuick, Nov 01 2003 Baked? I've been in several saltwater swimming pools - salty enough to be noticeably buoyant.-- benjamin, Nov 01 2003 random, halfbakery
