Dispense with the annoying hosts, the infomercials, the "making of", and the celebrity interviews. Just show the trailers, already. We all know these are the best part of going to the movies, anyway. 8)

Trailers are works of art unto themselves. Even though they borrow heavily from the full-length features they are advertising, they usually manage to get in all the best visuals, the wittiest lines, or the most dramatic plot points. Most are more interesting to watch than the movies themselves, especially for low-qualitiy films. And if you don't like a given trailer, don't worry -- it will be over in the length of time it takes to wait through a conventional commercial block.

The movie industry would probably have some amount of economic interest in subsidizing such an endeavor; certainly new video-on-demand services and rental places would benefit from people serendipitously discovering movies that interest them.

Everyone from bored couch potatoes to history buffs might have a general interest; trailers from particular genres might be broadcast in particular timeslots to attract viewers with interests in everything from sci-fi to Hitchcock to "inspired by real-life events" to documentaries.

It'd start that way, sure, but then some programming exec would get the bright idea to add a "Hollywood News" show, and then a show about independent filmmakers, and then some reality-based show with no discernable relation to cinema, until what you wind up with bears as little relation to movie trailers as MTV does to music videos.

Sort of baked. There was a cable TV show that came on one of the movie channels (in fact, I think it was The Movie Channel) that showed a half hour of movie trailers from the history of the form. It also spoke extensively of the art of the movie trailer. I'll see if I can find any info about the show.

I've seen this, not as a channel, but as a half-hour show. It was on some basic cable channel, like the SciFi network or TNT. I forget. It might have been on before or after Joe Bob Briggs's "Monstervision." But it was all classic trailers, from the golden age of B movies. I think it was called "Trailer Park."

there is a half-hour infomercial-style show called tribute tv in canada, that shows only current movie trailers. it's shown on one those 24-hour news/info-tainment channels. you can also catch it on the web. see link, click on "tribute tv", your honour.
