The Moving Festival   (0)  [vote for, against]
Different venue each year.

Ever been to the Edinburgh (Scotland) Festival? It's amazing. The whole city has a 2 week long party at the end of summer, and the population of the city at least doubles. There's the haute couture bit for opera and ballet, etc. and there's a Fringe festival where every pub, hall or back room hosts theatre, comedy, music, every day and night, often all day and night. The streets are packed with tourists, jugglers, artists, fire eaters, people pretending to be statues, you name it, it's there. It must generate a massive wad for the city's economy.

But why Edinburgh? Admittedly, it is a very picturesque place. However, couldn't something on a similar scale be held in other cities? So, you create The Moving Festival.

Doesn't have to just be in the UK, it can be international. Venue is drawn by lots. Artist'll turn up 'cos a lot of these guys need the work. Once a rotational pattern is established, audiences will supplement natives as the reputation grows. Massive revenue is generated. Everybody wins, and has a big party into the bargain.

Held at the start of summer. Come along.

This would be the Olympics, for starters, and many other big festivals.

But it's not a contest, and goes to places that don't usually have festivals.

Very common.

I thought this would be a way to make the act of moving all of my crap from one place to another a less traumatic experience. Quite a disappointment.

ato_de: along the lines of "Yay! ato-de's left the neighborhood! Yay!"...? ;)
-- DrCurry, May 29 2003

[DrCurry] ouch. I was thinking more along the lines of an excuse to get drunk and play music at unholy decibles... I guess that qualifies.

The Greatful Dead. (at least they used to be a moving festival)

I like it when I misinterpret a title. then when you read it you find out a completely different idea, it's like reading 2 ideas in one. BuenĂsimo.

Back in the eighties in the UK, we had the "Convoy". We Used to cruise (clatter) about in all sorts of dodgy vehicles, pull up wherever, and have a big festie. Heaps of fun, loads of mud, dreadlocks, dogs on a rope and LOUD music.

Later on the music got louder and the crowds got bigger, the police and Michael Heseltine all turned up, beat the cr*ap out of as many people as they could lay their hands on and went home and drew up the criminal justice bill. Festies aint what they used to be. oh no.

ROck In Rio is starting to work that way a bit.

Has been done many a time. The reason I croissant it is that it's not being done enough at the moment, so any suggestions for more festivals (preferably spontaneous a la 'Reclaim the Streets' affairs) should be supported.
