This bat contains an accelerometer that measures contact with the ball. A missed pitch and the bat says, Steee-rike One (Two/Three yer out!)
Based upon where the bat is contacted by the ball, the microprocessor can determine whether the ball is a high pop-up, or a shot to deep center. A perfect shot and the bat would announce, Its going going gone!
For people just learning the sport of baseball, all of the days hits could be downloaded to your PC to see trends and problem areas at the end of the session. The program would show whether you tend to go after high & outside, or low & inside.-- Klaatu, Feb 06 2005 Accelerometer heaven http://www.superlog...-3001f/92-1611.htm#Accel-ICP-1X-3200B- Specifications: Maximum shock 100,000 G's [Klaatu, Feb 07 2005] But should such a nice shiny piece of technology be inside the bat itself, it might make the batter less likely to put any real force into their shots, for fear of damaging their little bat friend-- hidden truths, Feb 07 2005 Accelerometers are available from 50-50,000 G's <link>.
I don't think that anyone, short of a major league player, would be putting that much force into hitting a baseball.-- Klaatu, Feb 07 2005 A certain hb'er, is known to go out and strike a few, in spring. I think, though I can't speak for him, that he might like this. But on the other hand, maybe the whole point for him, is to go and just smack something, sideways, with a bat.-- blissmiss, Feb 07 2005 I need more negative feedback.... I'd bet something like this will be available soon. don't golfers have a club that records swing and intensity? will google... and + for you.-- dentworth, Feb 07 2005 Suh-wing batta batta, suh-wing batta. (+)-- 2 fries shy of a happy meal, Feb 07 2005 i'm sorry dave, I can't let you swing like that.-- benfrost, Feb 07 2005 And a matching scream of pain from both you and the bat when you get all of a pitch but don't have a firm grip. +-- gardnertoo, Feb 08 2005 This would be even more useful than Klaatu suggests. A bat that gives instant sound feedback can allow relay of that information to runners on the field. Steal or not? which base to run for?-- Voice, Jul 03 2008 random, halfbakery
