Sushi Chess   (+23, -3)  [vote for, against]
A cheesboard where the pieces are delicious fresh seafood delights.

A la the shot glass chessboard everyone went ga-ga over sometime ago.

King: Maguro
Queen: Spicy Yellowtail
Bishop: Unagi
Rook: Shake
Knight: Saba
Pawn: California Roll

Alternative regional boards can substitute as they like, perhaps Tobiko or Ikura for California Roll, etc.

To differentiate teams (black v. white), one side uses ginger and the other uses wasabi as flavorful garnish on the top of each piece.

Shot Glass Chess Set http://www.firebox....bachelor/p_115.html

I had a fugu course the other day in Umeda, and I ain't dead.

No, no: white should be nigirizushi and black should be makizushi.

I wouldn't want to eat sushi touched by my opponent, it's just unsanitary. If I could eat my own pieces, but then that would defeat the purpose of the game.
-- krispykremednut, Jul 06 2001

Chopsticks aren't just for annoying 'pianists'. I'd like the sushi to rest in wasabi for the light square, and soy sauce for the dark squares.

There won't be any anti-gambit then.
-- BALIKEKMEK, Jul 07 2001

What do you do when you get a California roll to the 8th rank and your opponent has already eaten your spicy yellowtail?
-- StarChaser, Jul 08 2001

order another one!

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm sushi. I love sushi, but my friends are all very reluctant to try it ,"isn't that raw fish?"

But what about all that stenchy slime on the board as you ooze the pieces around? Fishbone.
-- blainez, Mar 04 2002

Sushi should be eaten immediately after being made because the flavor degrades rapidly. This would be a good idea, aesthetically speaking. But you would need to somehow make sushi that keeps it flavor and stays cold on it's own (unlikely and more unlikely), until it gets captured.

Or play blitz chess.

"Cheesse":

One side Monterey Jack, the other is cheddar. Play on a board of alternating coloured crackers.

A small pearing knife should suffice to machine out the general shape of the pieces.

I would the sushi before the game ever started. MMM
-- Japanese_Coffee, Jun 28 2003

All pieces must be moved using chopsticks. If you drop a piece by accident before reaching its destination, then that's the square you must move it to.

Refrigerated chessboard?
-- cronan, Jun 30 2003

Pawns are California rolls? Not prawns?
-- Tabbyclaw, Mar 22 2004

For the more impatient, and those less skilled at the complex and demanding game chess can be, I would suggest checkers, with two different kinds of rolls to denote the color differences. To king a piece, you add wasabi or ginger or both.
