Shelves are a pain to put up.. you've got all the gromit things, and all the screws, and brackets. Its just awful. Sucker shelves come with a line of those plastic suckers, that hold onto flat surfaces. To put the shelf up, you just push it onto the wall. To take the shelf down, you just pull on it, and >POP<, the shelf is down. Simple and easy. Sucker Shelves, they're not for suckers.-- [ sctld ], Jul 27 2002 Suction cup shelves http://www.thedormi.../bath___shower.html [phoenix, Jul 28 2002] Tub Rim Shelf http://www.jayeproducts.com/tubshelf.html [phoenix, Jul 28 2002] ShelfMaster Instant Shelves http://www.seenontv....html?gid=HOUSEHOLDAs seen on TV. Apparently. [waugsqueke, Jul 29 2002] but would they hold any weight? I think they'd be really dangerous..-- yamahito, Jul 27 2002 You can hardly compare a book shelf incident to the bends.-- [ sctld ], Jul 27 2002 a 10 Kilo blow to the head? I wouldn't volunteer for it.-- yamahito, Jul 27 2002 Maybe a sucker spice rack.-- watermelancholy, Jul 27 2002 Yama: You have ten kilos on your shelves?
They'll stay up. The product uses industrial strength suckers.-- [ sctld ], Jul 27 2002 shelves means books, for me.. But it was a generous estimate. The point is, you can't trust Joe Public not to store his priceless lead irons on it, then let his three year old granddaughter play beneath them in her bumper-car toy..-- yamahito, Jul 27 2002 Your walls are flat surfaces? (Mine aren't; they're kind of bumpy, and I can't imagine one of these things staying up even for seconds.)-- jutta, Jul 27 2002 Jutta: I take it you rent your flat. Otherwise i reccomend getting your walls resurfaced.-- [ sctld ], Jul 27 2002 Even if a suction cup stays attached to the wall, it's not rigid enough to support a shelf. Perhaps brackets that fold down and attach. Even then, you're going to need an awful lot of power to hold an appreciable amount of weight. Those suckers are going to have to really suck.-- bookworm, Jul 28 2002 Great idea, except that the sucker isn't gonna suck onto drywall or plaster or anything as mentioned by bracket-boy(?). You could use these to add a sill to windows without one, though. I dunno, it's so simple and functional an idea that I have to croissant it. How about if the shelves were just meant to be stuck to any smooth surface?
I personally would use them as a handy storage rack to store my personal troll collection, as well as my statue of my elf, as well as my surplus Halloween suckers. It would also make decorating with Christmas lights sooo much easier.-- polartomato, Jul 28 2002 why not just sucker all your stuff to the walls individually? I have a toothbrush holder that suckers to the bathroom tiles but every so often (I think it dries out or loses the vacuum - not sure) it falls into the sink.-- po, Jul 28 2002 [] looks more rectangular, methinks.
I dunno about the suction-cats. It's bad enough that they try to climb the curtains, now you have to try to pry them off the windows. Sigh.-- polartomato, Jul 29 2002 I wish I had a keyboard that allows you to type the Prince symbol... that would be awesome...-- polartomato, Jul 29 2002 What kind of weird walls do you have that suction cups stick to it? Do you have a glass house? I hope theres no horseplay with rocks in there-- punk_punker, Jun 05 2007 Personally, I think you're ahead of your time. By any chance, are you a time traveller?-- janbest, Jun 06 2007 random, halfbakery
